Since I got BIAB 2026 in December 2025 my Calkwalk TTS-1 basically made no sound. I found the solution to my problem today by doing STEP 1 of the following list of TTS-1 within BIAB Troubleshooting steps. Now I can use my TTS-1 as my default GM Synth in Band-in-Box!

1. Re-register the TTS-1 DLL (Most Likely Solution)
TTS-1 often stops working because its registration is lost. You need to manually register the file. • Close Band-in-a-Box.
• Open the Windows Command Prompt as Administrator (Search for "cmd", right-click, "Run as Administrator").
• Type the following command and press Enter:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\TTS-1\TTS-1.dll"
• Note: If you have a 32-bit Windows system, the path might be Program Files (x86).
• Restart Band-in-a-Box.

2. Verify DXi/VST Settings in BIAB
Band-in-a-Box must be configured to use DXi instruments properly.
• Go to Options > MIDI/Audio Driver Setup in Band-in-a-Box.
• Ensure Use DXi/VSTi Synth is checked.
• Click [DXi Synth Settings].
• Select Cakewalk TTS-1 from the list of available synths.
• Ensure no other MIDI driver is causing a conflict (e.g., try setting MIDI Output to "None" if you are only using the DXi).
3. Reinstall BandLab Cakewalk (Fixes Missing Files)
If you recently installed or updated BandLab Cakewalk, it may have damaged the shared TTS-1 files. Reinstalling the DAW usually restores it.
• Open the BandLab Assistant, go to the Apps tab, and choose to Install (or Reinstall) Cakewalk by BandLab.
• During installation, ensure the "TTS-1" or "Shared Plugins" option is checked.
• After installation, restart your computer and try loading BIAB again.
4. Delete the Plugin Cache File
If BIAB is trying to load a broken reference to the plugin, it will fail.
• Close Band-in-a-Box.
• Go to your bb folder (usually C:\bb or C:\Program Files (x86)\PG Music\Band-in-a-Box).
• Locate the file DXiPluginList.ini and delete it.
• Restart Band-in-a-Box. It will rebuild the plugin list, which often fixes the issue.
5. Check Sample Rate (Audio Sync Issues)
If the TTS-1 opens but makes no sound, it may be a sample rate mismatch.
• Ensure your Windows sound settings and Band-in-a-Box are both set to 44100 Hz (16 or 24-bit).
• In Windows, go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Properties > Advanced and set it to 44100 Hz.
