This appears to be a deal breaker for my new pc. Does Biab need to run at 44,100? With the conflicts I get pops since internal headphones are connected at 48,000. Everything runs fine on old Dell. Likely due to sonic effects built into new machine.

I can't say yes or no. But what I can say is I stopped using Dell for music machines 4-5 years ago because of issues similar to this. Good luck.

What drivers are you using?
If you have an external interface, you have more likelihood of success.

My Motu M4 Asio works fine on the old dell tower. I am confident that having no headphone output except at 48k causes the conflict.

I think so too.
Do you have the latest M4 drivers?
Just asking, not suggesting you get those. Do you have any MOTU drivers installed, or are you using system drivers?
If you do have them, are they recent?
You mentioned a new computer, so ...

I updated all Motu software and spent hours studying this. The new Biab runs very fast on the old Dell tower.

I got a great price on the new Dell with I7 and 32 gig but will not set headphone out to 44,100 hz. I have it packed and am shopping back today!

Thanks for your interest!

My HP Omen laptop has an onboard sound chip that is locked at 48Khz only. I get around it by using an external audio interface (I have a both Behringer and a Presonus USB interface that can be set for whatever sampling rate I want to use with ASIO drivers).

Tried using the headphones out of MOTU?
That would seem the best option ...
Why use the headphones out of computer?

My Motu4 is an external USB. Not certain but a lot of people believe that having two sampling rates causes the cracks that I heard.

My conclusion so far is that two sampling rates causes the cracks and pops. These are hear via headphones or speakers with the Moti4.

Dp.

1.. why do you need to run two different sampling rates. ??
What are you trying to do.
2.. it doesn't matter how fancy or powerful or how much somebody's spent on a new computer.... most will need optimization in order to run a music production Studio.
The mistake a lot of people make is to buy any old computer without assessing their music production needs for example track counts plug-ins etc etc
I've seen these problems often over the years.
3.. another big problem I've seen over the years is people trying to run everything but the kitchen sink on one PC. particularly the net can cause problems and issues..
So I run two PCs one for the net and one for music production.

For more information please read my thread how to acquire a PC for music production in the PG tips forum.

Reading this thread made me curious about the Motu4 and the problem with sampling rates. I know that I've experienced the popping if I had the sampling settings mixed up in my Behringer interface and they were easily fixed, so I posed the question to ChatGPT:

Is Motu4 usb interface capable of different sampling rates?

Yes — the **[MOTU M4] USB audio interface supports **multiple different sampling rates** for recording and playback, not just a single one. Specifically, it can be set to any of the common audio sample rates from **44.1 kHz up to 192 kHz**, giving you flexibility depending on your project needs.

### Supported Sampling Rates

The MOTU M4 can operate at the following standard sample rate settings:

* **44.1 kHz**
* **48 kHz**
* **88.2 kHz**
* **96 kHz**
* **176.4 kHz**
* **192 kHz**

### What This Means for You

* **Lower rates** (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz) are great for most music and multimedia projects and use less CPU and disk space.

* **Higher rates** (88.2 kHz, 96 kHz, 176.4 kHz, 192 kHz) can provide increased audio detail and are used in high-fidelity, professional recording applications — though they require more processing power and storage.

You can select the desired sample rate in your DAW or in the audio settings of your operating system once the interface is connected.

If you want help choosing the best sample rate for your specific use case (like podcasting, music recording, or streaming), let me know!

My MOTU Audio Express is actually self sensing so it will auto-adapt to the same sampling rate which is being sent to it. But the sending and recieving sampling rate must be the same. You can't mix sampling rates or you will hear the crackal and popping. I think we may all be in agreement with this. I will only add, I tried to fix everythink at 48K for a long period of time, then there came a point where I just gave up and now my default everywhere is 44.1.

Sorry about bringing up the subject again since you mentioned that you were sending the computer back, but my curiosity is getting the best of me.

I was wondering if you had disabled the computer motherboard's on-board sound chip (probably Realtek) in the bios settings?
