Where I could see it benefiting BiB is in real time synthesis of complex models (I guess, from what I understand of it, what Realdrums/tracks is doing).
Chris
No synthesis there. Real Tracks/Drums are the result of full blown studio recording sessions using real players. This is not samples where they do the same thing but the session is broken down to single notes that can be triggered by a midi file and played with a sampler. RT/RD's are recorded as full phrases 1-8 bars long that Biab chops up and puts back together based on the chords you put on the chord grid. There's no modeling happening, this is manipulation of prerecorded audio files using some pretty slick audio pitch shifting/tempo stretching and crossfade looping. Not sure what "Synthesis of complex models" means but it sounds like what a synthesizer or sampler might do. Biab is neither of those. There's been several discussions about the value of multi-core processors and the feeling is not much yet. A fast dual core is about as good as it gets right now with the max ram of course. Naturally as soon as you set one of those up and get it optimized for audio work, bam! here's a big advertising blitz by PG talking about how everything is now designed for the new 64 core Wonder Pentium running Win 12 and we all just have to get one....
Bob
Biab/RB latest build, Win 11 Pro, Ryzen 5 5600 G, 512 Gig SSD, 16 Gigs Ram, Steinberg UR22 MkII, Roland Sonic Cell, Kurzweil PC3, Hammond SK1, Korg PA3XPro, Garritan JABB, Hypercanvas, Sampletank 3, more.

So the RT / RD is sort of a Mellotron type system (and I mean this in the best way) rather than a physical modeling system (like for example Yamaha and others do for synthesis). I'm just speculating in reference to complex modeling... I'm thinking of the sort of algorithms that BiB must have for applying styles, but perhaps scaled up to the sort of super-Mellotron system that RT /RD might use. I've only played with these a bit; it hasn't been the focus of what I am interested in right now, but I'll be looking at them more down the line.

Mellotron; no. Realtracks are much more involved than that.
Realtracks- Studio musicians record tracks in different styles. They may have recorded the original tracks (which you can listen to by the way) using E-D-C-B progression (at tempo=108). Then you tell BiaB you want this 'style' recording using E-B-A-G chords (at tempo=112). Realtracks will take the recorded licks, pitch shift and and adjust tempo, and have the recording played with the chords and tempo you selected. Major tech accomplshment IMO. Very impressive when compared to loops and sampling.
Regenerating gives different varieties; another even more impressive feat. They really are quite an improvement to other options. I think they are a new innovation that will change a lot of other software. eventually..
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Sorry, I didn't mean to undersell the sophistication of RT/RD; but I understand. The Mellotron was from a different era, and digitization gives you a lot of power. I want to explore these as soon as I am satisfied with my MIDI setup and the UI for BiB.
BTW, on the issue of quad core processors, I've been monitoring the use of the cores on my machine (Athelon quad-core, 64-bit fetch)\, and I can see a reason for BiB to benefit from them. I notice that the NT kernel seems to take one core (#1) and about 18 threads; all of the systems jobs -- around 30-40 with maybe 200 threads -- take the #0 processor; and BiB flips between processor #2 and #3 (only one at a time as far as I can see, but I'm not sure what is going on) with around 20 threads.
Intel's Hyperthreading and AMD's Framewave (which would give a couple of virtual cores to each physical core) would presumably help manage the threads -- I don't know how predictive these can be, but there is enough going on on the computer overall that it is probably very useful to have them. Since BiB would have its own dedicated core, there is less likelihood of it hanging or delaying because of other jobs in the system.
