Hi All,

This is called Somebody's America.

I’m a vigilante for peace
There’s a war on every corner
It’s hard to know what it means
When everyone’s a soldier

I’m trying to love the living
In a language torn and raw
Every heart is drawing borders
Every kiss declares a war

I remember steady ground
I remember softer lines
This is somebody’s America
But right now it ain’t mine

I’m a letter left unopened
On a table set for none
Every promise sounds like thunder
When it’s spoken by a gun

I’m a choir with no steeple
Singing low so we survive
Every streetlight holds a vigil
For the ways we stay alive

I remember steady ground
I remember softer lines
This is somebody’s America
But right now it ain’t mine

I remember steady ground
I remember softer lines
This is somebody’s America
But right now it ain’t mine

Awesome thought-provoking work Bob! From the powerful first line all the way through it's such a great song!
The half sung/spoken parts are awesome and really make the song for me.
The resonator parts are the icing on a beautiful cake!

Take care, TB

Hi Bob!
A good song with great commentary. I like the way the backing conjures an image of a once bustling area that now seems dry and desolate - desolate might be too strong a word, but I hope you know what I mean.

I’ve heard the phrase used ‘When American get’s a cold, other countries are sneezing’ or something like that. From what I’ve seen, we’ve all got our hands over our mouths and noses - in more ways than one.

I remember steady ground
I remember softer lines

Here’s hoping that the US will find a more stable and softer future - both internally and externally.

Brilliant lyrics from the start, but "I'm a letter left unopened / On a table set for none" is an award winner! I really hope you record it again as it sounds like you have a sore throat. But truly an excellent song.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Excellent! A tricky write, and you nailed it.

Color me impressed - again! smile

Hi Bob,

That’s a great write and I'm sure lots of people, not just in America, can relate to. Even on the other side of the world, we look toward what was a culturally stable America. Right now we just don’t see it, what we see is anarchy and it’s coming from the top.

Politics aside, this is very insightful, astute song Bob. Good choice of style and played and sung very well.

We need more of this thought provoking songs. Kind regards

... This is somebody’s America
But right now it ain’t mine...

Well, Bob, you can't believe these kinds of songs still have to be made in this day and age. Well done!
I hope the "cold" crowd isn't listening.

It's both good and bad that these songs have to be made. Unfortunately, we live in turbulent times.
Not just in your country, but here too. But maybe we'll find a good solution soon and become that vigilante...

Hey Bob,

Very timely song, and done brilliantly.

"Every promise sounds like thunder
When it’s spoken by a gun"

Wow!

Just awesome, Bob. Thoughtful-yet-visceral can be a tough nuance to maneuver, but you've nailed it (again). Love your vocals and your electric guitar fills. The drums lend a bone chilling militaristic edge that is relatable and SO perfect. Super open mix, too.

Have heard so many great songs by you that it's hard to say which is my favorite. But this may be the most memorable.

Hats off, sir...

Nice. Straight to the point. I could say similar about the UK. Is all lost or will it all turn round in another 100 years?

Bob, this hits the nail right on the head!
Lines like "This is somebody’s America
But right now it ain’t mine

Every promise sounds like thunder
When it’s spoken by a gun"

really hit home. It is so true.

Loved it

I hear about all this political news on the tube, but I cannot see it here, if anything people are closer than ever, but a nice write and mix, I like your low male voice for sure. I didn't go to war for America just to abandon it when comfortable, fix it and move on.
