I know A. Dee will relate to this in some way because of struggling with lyrics. I started this song way back in 1977. I had the music written but, as for words, I got stuck after the second chorus! I didn't know how to resolve it. It wasn't until 2022 that I approached Robert Quigley from Scotland who I met on Broadjam to finish the lyrics! I was inspired by the Friday nights I spent in night clubs and the hits "You Should Be Dancing" and "Nights on Broadway" by the Bee Gees, so I typed that into Band in a Box. https://www.johnwalradt.com/music/songs/youcanfeelit.mp3Song is saved with bar changes for Tempo, Style is _HUSTLE.STY (Hustle Modern Disco w Elec Piano) RealTracks in style: 1434:Bass, Electric, JazzFunkPoppy Ev16 110 RealTracks in song: 1262:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm PopShiningHeld Ev 120 RealTracks in song: ~1033:Guitar, 12-String Electric, Strumming Ev 120 RealTracks in style: 1408:Piano, SynthLayer, Rhythm Soul70sHeld Ev16 100 RealDrums in Song: Soul70sPercEv16^1-CldHHSn,BsyBs RealDrums in style:SynthDrumsDisco^1-a:Snare, Kick , b:Snare Busy, Kick YOU CAN FEEL IT Words and music by John Walradt and Robert Quigley When the night is long and cold And we're dancing hard to rock and roll And you look at me and we both can see The strong reality that we both know. Oh-Whoa-oh, you can feel it Oh-Whoa-oh, baby, you can feel it. Whatcha' doing over there When your thoughts are flying through the air? You should be with me So pick up your feet And let's find a place where we can meet. Oh-Whoa-oh, you can feel it Oh-Whoa-oh, baby, you can feel it. Oh-Whoa-oh, you can feel it Oh-Whoa-oh, baby, you can feel it. Do you ever dream, dream of this moment? Where all the stars align? Where you are dancing, dancing with a stranger, And strangely, it feels fine? And so the night comes to a close And sweat is soaking through our clothes With our pulses racing, racing at great speed, Then I know it's you, it’s you I need Oh-Whoa-oh, you can feel it Oh-Whoa-oh, baby, you can feel it. When the night is long and cold And we're dancing hard to rock and roll And you look at me and we both can see The strong reality that we both know. Hi John! Wow! I lost a few kilos just listening to it! If I were on the dance floor, I’d have to choose the setting Edit > Preferences > Dance at half speed. Everything worked well together - not sure about the breakdown in the middle, but glad when the beat picked up again.
Waiting 45 years for lyrics? You are correct - that has been my lot in life too - so I’m glad I am in good company.
You have some diverse material - I like the variety - well done!
Andrew

Now THAT's a wild ride, John! Quite a groove you've carved out, and the change of pace in the 2nd half is a fun, original sounding twist. Like the band you've put together a lot, too.
Are those your vocals? They sound quite modern in some of the phrasing and the way the words are formed. I think they are quite good and they suit the song well.
Super tune!

Oh, yeah, I'm dancing. But I should listen to my doc who says I ain't as young as I used to be. Who is, I asked? But I'm dancing like it's 1977. What a good write, John. I'm so glad you never gave up on it. An outstnading production for sure. The perfect mix allows all the goodness you packed into this to shine forth into the ears. Then the brain kicks it all down right to my feet. Heck, I was never a good dancer; that's why I played instead. Really such a good song, John. Thanks for the workout.

Oooo...I have a lot to respond to here. First of all thank you very much to all of you who have responded!
Andrew: Yep, the middle part...you're on the dance floor dancing like a chimpanzee on a hot skillet when suddenly the tempo slows half speed. What do you do now? Well, that's what the Bee Gees did with "Night's on Broadway." When I heard that I thought that's genius! It really adds an unexpected surprise and interest in the melody! I decided to do that on "You Can Feel It." I forgot to add that I played the midi strings. I also used Waves Flow Motion Stereo and selected I Feel Love from the Melodic Sequence section on the menu.
DC Ron: The vocals are Cooper Moss, who is on FiveRR and Airgigs. He's from Scotland and moved to Nashville, a good friend of Robert Quigley who finished the lyrics on this song. He said he was up for doing something different. Thank you on the "super tune" comment! It was one of those tunes that I instantly knew was a catchy one. It's one of two wild rides I've done. My other is a Twisted Sister influenced one called, "Ride the Wave."
Marty: I'm not a good dancer either. My coordination sucks. After 50 years of playing guitar, I'm still a novice! I just use it for composing songs. That's why I was excited about finding Band in a Box! I took the time to teach myself how to read music when I was in my 30s which is useful for using Band in a Box. To learn how to read music as easily as I could, I went to the childrens section of the library. In an hour I was actually reading "The Mickey Mouse March." That was actually a big start and the rest fell into place easily. I have to listen to my doctors, too. I use a walking stick to get around since my flat feet have peripheral neuropathy.
Bob: I'm surprised at the mix. I was still in my first year of trying to learn how to mix. That was in 2022. It took several tries to get it. I think I went about it the way most people who are curious do it. First it was using online mastering. After a year I dove into the plethora of crazy stuff like EQ, compression, limiters, and so on. I bought a lot of plug-ins that I hardly use. It takes me longer than most people to get the hang of things but once I do it's there solid.
Mario: I'm thrilled you like it so well! It's probably the most exciting one I've done. It's all downhill from here! Hahaha!
The best to all of you! John
