Last year, I made a New Years resolution to try and record at least 1 song per week. I'd recently purchased my first MacBook Pro, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Pro. My plan was to get my original music recorded. And I've been able to do that. I do a fair amount of live dates... but so do my band mates. It's nearly impossible to find a good time to get everyone together. I was really frustrated.

I first used Band in a Box in the early 2000's. I heard a recording of someone using BIAB 2024 and was knocked out with how good the real tracks sounded. So... I bought a copy. And I recorded one of my original songs and posted it in the User Showcase. You guys were so encouraging with your comments. But I soon discovered that I wouldn't be able to get all the original music recorded on a "record 1 song per week" schedule I'd put on myself. So I started using Band in a Box to do covers of jazz standards and public domain songs.

I've since done more than 70 (close to 80 now) recordings utilizing BIAB 25 Ultra Pak (I upgraded... can't wait to see what will be in BIAB 26 for Mac). I also made videos to accompany the recordings.

I'm a big fan of BIAB. It delivers some fantastic backing tracks. Many of the musicians who recorded the real tracks are jazz legends. When I have a written part that I want played, for example a bass line, I can generate a midi file in Finale, export it, put it into Logic and assign a sound. I then use a BIAB generated rhythm section to fill out the other parts of the band. The results have been amazing.

I have a YouTube channel that has the entire collection of my New Years 2025 resolution.

"Have You Met Miss Jones" was one of my first attempts at recording a jazz standard with BIAB. It turned out great (though I did experiment with a 2 mic setup... not entirely happy with the outcome. But I learned a lot from it. Now I just used the Sennheiser 441 (much better results for the room I record in).
