Spot on the Wall

A quirky song about figuring things out. A spot on the wall. A relationship. A life. Took me two months to warm up to these lyrics but I like them a lot by now. The notion of running hard, but not necessarily in the right direction, is so...me.

Every instrument you hear is from the 2026 RealStyle _DESCEND.STY. The pair of modern fingerstyle guitars sound great split like this. The first part of the song features the pair. The bridge features the rhythm guitar. The rest has all three guitars at the same time. Panning listed below.

The 4820 guitar produced harsh artifacts that Melodyne could not isolate, so the BiaB stem took maybe 30 partial regenerations to MOSTLY clean that up. I'll send the support folks at PGMusic a report with a frozen track.

Struggled with the bridge. I like it enough now, but it might have just beaten me down. So if you have thoughts on whether this works or not, I'd be interested.

THANK YOU in advance for any listens and comments.

A Spot on the Wall

There’s a spot on the wall
It catches my eye
I don’t know what it is
And I don’t know why
Could it be a spider?
A fly from outside?
A lone spot on the wall
With no place to hide

I’m running on my treadmill
Like I’m running a big race
I could be running to you in Dallas
But I just keep running in place
And the walls are like my skyline
And the fan is like my breeze
I’m struggling toward the finish line
Until you come back to me

There’s a spot on the wall
It don’t even move
Like art nouveau painting
In the French Louvre
Like a black hole in space
A hole in the wall
Maybe an eye floater
Too big or too small

I’m running on my treadmill
Like I’m running a big race
I could be running to you in Dallas
But I just keep running in place
And the walls are like my skyline
And the fan is like my breeze
I’m struggling toward the finish line
Until you come back to me

I think I’m getting shin splints
With all the suspense
My environment’s getting too artificial
But my exercise is so beneficial
With an initial case of the cramps
Running under the lamps

There’s a spot on the wall
It catches my eye
I don’t know what it is
And I don’t know why

I’m running on my treadmill
Like I’m running a big race
I could be running to you in Dallas
But I just keep running in place
And the walls are like my skyline
And the fan is like my breeze
I’m struggling toward the finish line
Until you come back to me

Too many guitars (is that a thing?)
