The Old Man's Rocker on Soundcloud (better mix)
The Old Man's Rocker on YouTube

A song about a rock star's retirement.
The mix was changed after the YT vid was already up. Since Soundcloud let's us replace audio without losing anything, SC has a little better mix.

Style is _COOKIN.STY (Cookin' Blues Rock Shuffle)

RealTracks in style: ~425:Organ, B3, Background Blues Sw 120
RealTracks in style: 2436:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm NewOrleansShuffle Sw 130
RealTracks in song: ~2498:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm RockabillySwingKevin Sw 165
EZDrummer
Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played guitar. I played bass and sang.

The Old Man's Rocker

His first guitar stood higher than his height
He grew to play it so well.
In time he had a gig nearly every night,
and the crowds began to swell.
He took with him a spouse, bought an old farmhouse.
They loved their country air.
They retired from that scene cuz it didn't fit their dream.
They bought rocking chairs.

Now the old man's rocker's rollin' on the porch, He shreds the days away.
He survived the 60s, He's lighting up the torch with flames of carefree play.

Neighbors came from far and wide, and some joined in to play.
The porch began to rock when he played his slide,
and no one stopped the sway.
His bandmates got real tight playing every night,
that feeling now restored.
He stood beside his chair and strummed away with flare.
The neighbors cheered for more.

The old man's rocker's creeking on the beat. He loves his rock & rye.
Through rain and shine he brings the heat. That old flame now won't die.

Rock. Rock, old man. Rock up on your porch.

Marty.
Very interesting lyric. I love the "spouse" and "house" rhyme
Dave done a fine job.
Did you use reverb on the vox and mix? To my ears there seems to be a loss of clarity.
It could be too much reverb, or an EQ thing. Could be my ears too.

Hi Marty,

I listened to the YT version some days ago and now the one on SC.
Yes, you are right. This one sounds more bright/clear than on YT, but I'm not so sure now...

I like the rhythm and especially the chorus. Wow, great harmonies there!
I think I missed that on YT.
Dave is doing his super best, maybe (imho) his best solo!

No, I just wanted to tease a little bit here; he always has great solos. I think he really is a virtuoso!

Super job, Marty and Dave. This sounds like a REAL good time! Energetic lead vocals and playing by both of you. Nice arrangement and mix. Love the backing vocals! You guys don't sound like you're ready to retire to the porch for a long, LONG time. smile

What a great idea for a song! I think MOST of us here can relate strongly to this. Dave was on fire. I wondered about Vic's comment. It sounds like your vocal chain has changed. Well, you'll have another song out soon and we can compare. Great work!

Hey, Marty. Now that's what I call a keeping the faith song! Sounds like you're jamming with the Doobies. Cool rockin' tune and a fun story. Great choice of Band in a Box tracks, too. Cookin' style, eh? I'll have to copy and paste that, then try it out.

Hi Marty.

I loved it! The whole presentation shines with energy – lyrics, melody, performances, arrangement, production. My compliments to Dave and you for your real-human tracks. Both Dave's guitar work and your bass playing are excellent (as always). To my ears, this is yet another great collaboration.

Musical excellence!

Thanks, Vic. Yes, reverb was added. It was probably too much of that, and not your ears, which I always appreciate.

Thanks, Hans. I'd suggest listening to both a hundred times or whatever is needed for you to be sure. smile You're right about Dave. Man, I've been remixing many of the old songs, and it's amazing the different styles that he is proficient in, and how he comes up with the perfect track blows my mind.

"He loves his rock & rye." That's a good one.

That's a rollicking production. The lead and bass duet is sizzling and the vocals are high energy.

Very good rocker, I like how you and Dave shred your days away smile So many flames and carefree play on the porch that I hope it won't burn down wink Dave's once again amazing and your bass and vocals are not creaking, but fresh as a 60s teenager brought to us by a time machine. Keep on rocking the chair!

Thanks, Brain. Glad you like it. The tour was cancelled, but there may be a couple Ai ads for it still out there.

Thanks, Ron. It's the way retirement should be, but not always is. I've been retired for 13 years and we're getting a new back porch this Spring.

Thanks, Dan. Yeah, the broomstick broke and my wife had to hold the mic. Her inexperience --or maybe it was because she was also dancing and playing the washboard--made her miss a couple words.

Thanks, Bob. I knew I'd get a few AMENs here. hehe Yeah, I messed with the vox chain; i should just give up and have Ai sing my songs.

One of your very best, Marty, no doubt, for me. The lyrics are superb, so clever! Love the double-meanings. The story, we've all been there smile ... that's how much of the genuine talent in this world ends up. No worries - we can still shred, just give us half a chance to create music, and watch us go smile

Dave's guitar: on fire. Your bass: unobtrusive, but holding things together, nevertheless smile And your voice: excellent, really excellent!

LOVE this song. I'm gonna bookmark it, in fact, that's what I'll do smile Bravi.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
