Dear BIAB friends and music colleagues,

It's been a while ... in fact, well into last year since I've shared a song on here ... so, first of all, let me wish you all a Happy New Year 2026. Hope it's all you dream of, and more, in every way.

Me, I've kept writing with BIAB, as usual. However, in December, something happened which made me stop writing for a while.

This is the first song I've written since.

I've also discovered Suno, in the meantime, and I've put a number of my songs (all of which written with BIAB) through it, too, just to see what it does with them, if nothing else. Some results were great, others not quite so. I've kept the "good", discarded the "bad".

In any case, I've been a little reticent to post songs which I've put through Suno on here, simply because the final production was not BIAB. However, I have been encouraged to post this one. I hope this is ok, because, although the final production is Suno's, I have written the backing track of this (and of all my songs, in fact) with BIAB. Without BIAB, none of my music would even have taken off the ground.

If there is indeed a problem with me posting songs produced in this way, however, please of course do not hesitate to let me know.

In any case, enough verbiage from me ... here is the song. All feedback, as always, is really welcome. Thank you so much for taking of your time with it smile

Lyrics:

COULD NOT MISS YOU MORE

The evening's drawing softly in,
I ask myself: "ah, where have you been?"
The wound is fresh, and I still think of you,
And I do wonder: "what is it that I didn't do?"

I'm stuck here, waiting by the telephone,
Knowing well that I'll never hear your tone,
You walked this Earth, and played by your own rules,
And, now you've left this toughest of all schools

I am alone, an only child, again ...
My tears run free, but it is now in vain;
And as you gently open one more door
Inside my soul ... I could not miss you more.

***

I wait for you, for, surely, you'll pick up,
We'd talk again ... no more, this bitter cup ...
We'd laugh and cry, we'd share things, as before,
And I could tell you all my thoughts, once more,

You would complain, for this world was far too tough
For your kind soul; and yet, you'd call its bluff ...
Your sense of humour, of it, I would never tire ...
And now you've gone, flying forever higher,

I am alone, an only child, again ...
My tears run free, but it is now in vain;
And, as you gently open one more door
Inside my soul ... I could not miss you more.

It's a very beautiful song with a lovely voice and beautiful arrangements. Personally, on the forum, I keep most of the BIAB accompaniments and add Suno's vocals and a few other arrangements.

Hi, James.

A lovely song - excellent lyrics and a gentle melody.

Having used Suno, I'm never sure how to respond to posts that use it. Do I mention the arrangement (that Suno did), or the singing (which Suno did).

I'm curious about your process. Specifically, how did you get the melody into Suno? Did you sing it yourself, or use a synthetic voice and have it re-do it?

The vocal has a bit of a rasp and a feels heavily processed - something I've noticed from other Suno vocals. I suspect it comes from having been trained on so much pitch corrected music.

In any event, it's a touching song.

James, all I can say is WOW!
This is masterpiece for sure
Loved that intro, the arrangement, and the lyrics.
That piano and cello are icing on the cake.
Fantastic use of AI.
IMHO this is your best write to date
Loved it

James, this is amazing. I feel like it's everything you've sought to attain in music but found yourself previously fettered. I hear you all over it, regardless of Suno. I can't say enough good about it, it's truly touching.

As Laurent stated, for participating on this forum, I personally think the best policy is to use BIAB for everything except the vocals, which are then left to Suno. You have to separate the stems in order to do that, if you don't already know. Separate the vocal stem from the instrument stems, download the vocal stem, and place it into your DAW. It can get trickier than that, but that's the short of it.

Even if you use BIAB for the instruments and only use Suno for vocals, some on this board will not comment on your songs.

Welcome back!

James, beautiful song. Gentle, contemplative and VERY sweet. The vocals are overall quite nice, with only a couple of bothersome glitches around the 3:00 mark.

I'm one of the forum members that will listen to a Suno vocal over a BiaB backing track, but not a Suno cover. Well...usually. smile

Know a lot of folks in our demographic are navigating the AI music maze and figuring things out. Generative AI in music creation is indeed a "disruptive technology", and the end state is not yet known...

It still sounds like one of your songs.
The chord choices, phrasing and lyric shout JAMES DID THIS.
It's a sweet thing.

Thanks, David. You can always comment on the writing (music and lyrics) itself, as you have indeed done here, perhaps? smile Firmly tongue-in-cheek, though, as I can well appreciate the difficulties you fairly raise smile

I recorded the vocal myself, mixed it with the BIAB backing track I created, and put the resulting mixed track into Suno.

And yes, I noticed the "rasp" in the final vocal, too! No idea whether that's just a reflection of my own voice timbre, or whether, as you say, Suno has had one too many autotune vocals as its "teacher" ... smile ...

Thanks so much for your kind comments, and for taking the time to comment!

Ah, you know how I feel about this beautiful song, James. Like others have said, it is obviously a James Delsono masterpiece. Your style, feeling and writing are proudly present. YES, of course I told you to post this in spite of the fact that you have removed the BiaB tracks --where you wrote the song. You are a valuable member of this forum, and your use of this program is evident. You never would've been able to get SUNO to come up with this fine rendition without first creating it in BiaB. This song is the best you've ever created, and your motivation for it is evident. Your sister was obvioulsy a truly wonderful person.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Welcome back! No other song on this forum has touched me this much for a long long time. Doesn't matter whether you used SUNO or not, when everything sounds it is recognizably your song with the most beautiful lyrics, melody and chords. As I've said before, it's the song that counts, not the tools used to making it...

"And as you gently open one more door/Inside my soul ... I could not miss you more" - this is deeply emotional and powerful. And Suno just highlights your superb songwriting skills raising this song to the same professional level as any of the greatest ballads ever written. Thanks for tears, thanks for beauty.

Beautiful, touching song.
Love the lyrics.
As far as the use of AI is concerned, I don't care.
Either I like a song or I don't.

Since this is a BIAB forum, I have limited myself to AI vocals and try to use BIAB or my own noodling for the rest.
But some people refuse to comment on a song as soon as they see "AI" written somewhere.
Get used to it smile

TuneMonger: thank you ever so much for such incredibly nice and kind words. Yes, it does feel like this song is more "me", if that makes sense. I'm so glad you liked it.

Yes (as I wrote to Laurent, also), that suggestion is a thought. I may just do that (use only the Suno vocals on a BiaB background), when posting here.

Thank you for listening, for commenting, and (last but not least) your kind words in welcoming me back smile

Ron: thank you smile I'll have to listen out for the glitches ... they completely passed me by, lol ... see, that's why it's so good to have another, fresh musical ear to listen to our songs! smile

My take with AI is as follows: if you generate the song without any personal input, then that's not your song. But if you've written melody, accompaniment, lyrics, etc., and all the AI does is polish and arrange it, then (to the extent of your personal contribution to the song) that song is yours. There is, I find, a difference between composing and arranging smile .

Besides, it's not like we write every note ourselves, when using BiaB, either ... although BiaB renders what we do write much more faithfully than Suno (the latter has a habit, for good or for bad, of "correcting (what it sees as) one's mistakes" in music theory, etc., when it thinks it has spotted them smile . For me, as someone who likes to experiment with more unusual chord progressions from time to time, that particular habit of Suno's is not fun ... and, as I wrote, BiaB renders exactly what you write, almost all of the time [it does have its moments, too, haha, but far fewer than Suno's!].

At the end of the day, for me, the "end product", i.e. the SONG, is what matters. If I end up with a good song, I'm happy to even forgo my own credits, if needed, so long as my concept of what I wanted is realised. I don't care about "personal glory", haha ... I do care about the end result. And I will never ever publish a song I don't like ... especially not under my own artist name, haha ... regardless of how it's been done. So ... smile

Marty: THANK YOU. And yes, you are absolutely spot on: I would not have been able to have Suno create this version if I hadn't first created it in BiaB, for Suno to feed off, as it were.

Thank you so much for everything; for your kindness, for taking the time to listen and comment, and for such really nice comments. And yes - she was.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
