My Colombian Geisha - Soundcloud

My Colombian Geisha - Youtube

Hello fellow Boxers,

My latest offering isn't a newie, but a BIAB rework of an oldie... so old, it's almost 1 year old!! I haven't had the creative juices flowing recently, so I thought I'd give this one a new lease on life. I can't remember what the theme for the song write was, but I turned my attention to one of my and many people's favourite addiction, coffee. The title come about when a tripped over this coffee brand on the internet. No great insights or thought provoking lyrics, but plenty of coffee related terminology. Like the best of coffee's, BIAB has given this take a smoother, well rounded and dare I say a satisfying aroma. Cheers, here's hoping this stimulates me to more creativity.

BIAB Info:

Lee, nice one!

Love the changes and your rumbling vocals. Nice band, nicely arranged. That soloist fits right in, too.

Not a coffee aficionado so had to Google a couple of terms. So an educational song as well!

Well done!

It's a good thing I did some Googling, because my mind definitely went in a different direction from what your song intended. Once I was properly oriented (pun intended), I was able to enjoy your very good song. Good vox, good use of BIAB, and quite a chord chart! Well done, Lee!

It made me want to have a cup of coffee. The guitar parts are great. The accompaniment and vocals have a slightly captivating quality. Very pleasant to listen to.

Hi K-Dub!
I held off reacting to your song until this morning when I have my cuppa in hand to support the full experience.

This is another song of yours that makes good use of vocables in the main vocal of the chorus, and I love your use of chord extensions to add some flavour as well. The low pitch main vocal is refreshing amongst other songs - great! The Fmaj7 - A for the chorus sounds really good to my ears. Good choice of RealStyle too - Latin for Colombian. Maybe some panpipes could have been used? I’m unsure if BIAB has a panpipes patch, and would be really impressed if it did.

I had to look up silverskins…

Silverskins on coffee refer to the thin, papery layer that envelops the green coffee bean.

Thank you Bob,

I did take quite some time trying to get the mix just right. I cut quite a lot out of the original and left just the rhythm and Vox. In the end it’s worked out well and better than the original , although I was almost tempted to leave my original lead guitar in. But the BIAB lead just takes it to another level.

Kind regards.

Cheers Ron

The vocal was a good break from trying to sing in a higher range. There was no straining and it was a lot easier to get down. I spent quite a while auditioning 2 bar sections for the solos (F5j. Whilst BIAB does a reasonable attempt to provide a complete 16 bar solo on the first generation, it doesn’t always sound like a flowing melodic version. It does throw together some weird combinations.

Thank you Ron, I appreciate your feedback and comments, regards.

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your kind words. From what I recall a year ago, I too did a bit of Google research for all terms relating to Coffee, I can’t profess to being an expert….i hope that doesn’t grind anyone’s beans!! A lot of chords I wouldn’t normally use, but I usually just tinker around a chord until I find an alternate fingering that blends well with the song…”oh, that’s an A11sus2, really!!”.

Kind regards Rob.

Thank you Laurent,

If it made you want a coffee then it’s done its job. As I said in a previous post I took the time to get a good mix on the solo. It’s such an important part of the overall mix, that it needs to be sound like it flows naturally. Perhaps the use of a deeper Vox just lends very well to the subject. Like the sense of a strong blended warm steaming cup of coffee and that first taste….aaahhh!!

Thank you Laurent, I appreciate your kind words.

Good morning Mr Dee,

So you went for the 3d effect of coffee in hand, did you? I wonder if Starbucks is interested in using it for commercial purposes!

It was surprisingly refreshing to sing in that range, no straining and fairly easy on the voice. I was trying to channel some of Mr Bowie’s lower range and feel on this one. I really did go to town on this one with those chord extensions, not sure what possessed me (caffeine probably), but it works and fits well. I did specifically want a Latin, almost Santana type style, and this suited really well, even down to rasp that plays throughout. I was in two minds to keep the original lead guitar I recorded. It was a lot darker and driven guitar compared to the BIAB guitar. Both work well but in the end BIAB was the clear winner.

Coffee today? 10am?? ……now, where did my Geisha go?…Honey!

Cheers Andrew.

Latte macchiato?
I'm in smile

Good, easy-flowing song.
What I like best is the sound of your voice together with the organ.
Together they have a nice Roger Waters vibe.

Hi BD

I agree, the organ was a revelation for me. I'm generally not a fan of organs, but it really worked in this instance, with it just in the background throughout. Plus it adds to that Latin feel.

Thank you for listening and kind words. Kind regards.

Hi there Blue,

I'm glad it comes across as laid back, I wasn’t trying to capture that sense of contentment you get from the taste of a fine coffee. Thank you for your kind words on vocal and video also. Kind regards.

Mushroom Coffee! What a cool song, Lee. I'm already addicted to it. I really like your mesmerizing vocal. Man, I'm diggin' that guitar. My first listen was on YT, and I got carried away with the hypnotic rhythm. So many say coffee gives them the jitters, but this song is more like what I experience. hehe
The second time I concentrated on the lyrics. HAHA and WOW! Brilliant!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Lee.

This is a very atmospheric listen! I loved the journey. I used to love coffee (Turkish coffee and espresso were favourites). Unfortunately lack of good kidney health these days means that I have to be mindful of diet, and coffee is one of those things that I only touch sparingly now. That said, your song took me back to earlier times in my life and I could once again smell the aroma of what I used to thoroughly enjoy! Thanks for that smile

I enjoyed this!

Thank you Marty for your kind review.

Stupid question, what is Mushroom Coffee? Never heard of it, is it one of those hallucinogenic campfire brews? The lead guitar worked out really well, as I’ve mentioned before it pays to audition virtually every bar or two to get a solo that flows. Thank you for the vocal remarks, I was hoping it didn’t come across as a drone too much. I'm glad that the end product gave you the same sensation as a welcomed cup of Joe, that’s the ultimate compliment.

Kind regards Marty

Hi there Noel

I’m glad this took you on a journey of remembrance to a time of pleasure for you, although I’m sorry to hear that you can only have limited experience of that now. It’s really my only vice now and that’s usually only once a day. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink alcohol much, never touched any drugs except prescribed, the remaining vice is at her discretion….so all in all, I should be in peak condition…… wrong!!

It’s one of life’s simple pleasures, from the smell of the ground beans to the last sip, can’t imagine a day without it. I do hope your Kidney issue improves or is at least stable. Thank you for your kind review, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Kind regards.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, Lee. Shrooms in coffee. Yuck, I'd rather have the coffee on the side. wink Nope, if ya get a chance, try some. Great taste AND it has a lot in it that's good for ya besides the coffee.
