Decided to have some fun and ask mighty AI what it "thinks" would be the set of 5 best improvements to BIAB. Please note, I was neutral in my question and didn't suggest anything prior myself when asked. Seems, it was unaware of 2026 of UI redesign. Also, #3 is a bit outdated, as a few years ago PGM figured out how to use multi cores to speed up generations significantly and introduced partial regenerations. But overall it was fairly accurate. Personally, I think a proper global timeline (AI suggestion #2) will solve a lot of consistency and navigation issues and definitely should be on PGMs radar. Anyway, here we go. Text is unchanged:
Here are 5 high-impact improvements that would likely make Band-in-a-Box more appealing and expand its user base:
1. Modernized UI / UX redesign Cleaner layout, scalable interface, smoother workflow, better visual hierarchy. Right now the interface feels dated compared to DAWs like Ableton Live or Logic Pro. A visual refresh alone would significantly change perception.
2. True DAW-style timeline integration A more fluid piano roll + arrangement timeline with drag-and-drop editing, automation lanes, and modern MIDI tools — closer to how users expect composition software to behave today.
3. Faster RealTracks generation + variation control More granular control over phrasing, articulation, and regeneration of specific bars (without regenerating whole sections). Users want “micro-control,” not just macro arrangement.
4. Better interoperability / plugin-first approach Stronger VST/AU plugin workflow so users can treat it like an intelligent composition engine inside major DAWs (especially Cubase, Reaper, and Pro Tools). Make it feel native rather than exported.
5. AI-assisted composition tools (tasteful, not gimmicky) Smart chord substitution suggestions Style matching based on reference track Melodic reharmonization suggestions But presented as assistive tools — not replacing musical control.

All A.I. does is gather and report a consensus from a large collection of data, so it's not at all surprising if what it gathers is sometimes a bit out of date.
I do wonder how much that will get better or worse as it starts to learn from its and other A.I. output.
