Hello, I have been using RealBand for a year or so, but mostly for jamming accompaniment.
Today, I actually started recording a live lead guitar track against my RealBand (audio) tracks. When I go to play back the recording, the solo appears to be just a hair out of sync from the Real tracks, and essentially makes the recording unlistenable.
Does anyone have any insights as to what may be the problem?
Just to give some idea of my setup, I have a .SEQ file with 2 RealTracks tracks: RT379 (Bass Guitar), RT378 (Acoustic Guitar), and 1 RealDrums track: CountryTrain RealDrums. When the tracks are playing by themselves, they sound fine. When I record the live guitar lead track on top of those (using the blank Track 4), it sounds good until I play it back. The tempo is 120 bps, I am listening to the tracks (the 3 pre-recorded Real audio tracks and the recording lead guitar track) on headphones plugged into my laptop. The lead track is generated by placing a directional mike in front of my amp, and that mike is plugged into the audio input of my laptop.
Any response is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Tim

Check options-preferences-audio tab and click the drivers button and see what is selected.
Try to find the direct driver to the input, rather than using soundmapper or such.
Recorded latency is often due to settings in the driver window or the audio tab.
Quick fix- highlite the whole track, hold the ctrl key down and 'grab' the track and slide it to where you want it. If it won't slide ahead, 'unselect' a portion of the track so there is room to slide it ahead. (can't slide a track past the beginning)
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thanks rharv. Hmm.. It is not allowing me to switch to the non-MS Sound Mapper driver on the input side (although for some reason it lets me on the output side).
How do I attach a screenshot to show you this??
In other words, in the Audio Drivers dialog, on the Audio Input Driver(s) box (left side of dialog), I have two drivers: "Microsoft Sound Mapper" and "Microphone (Realtek High Defini". When I select only "Microphone (Realtek High Defini", and then click the "Move selected Devices to Top" button, nothing happens. However, it does allow me to swap the two drivers on the output side.
ANy other ideas are appreciated! Thanks again!
Tim

It only moves the right side. As long as the left side has the mic input as the *only* thing highlited it should work.
Try recording now.. If you still have the latency, you may need an audio interface. If you don't hear the latency, do you have a line out of the amp being used? It may sound better than the mic...

Hi, sorry for the delay in reply (been sick). Unfortunately, I still have the latency even when changing which audio input driver is selected. I have also tried manually shifting the track (grab, slide, etc.) which I am finding too difficult to finesse for my purposes.
You mentioned that if I still have a latency, I may need an audio interface or use the extra line-out on amp. I do have an extra line out, but don't see what good that would do as I still have to record onto track via some input on my laptop (and I have established that both input drivers introduce latency). Unless I am misunderstanding you here?
I am up for an "audio interface", but don't understand what you mean by that, nor how anything would be able to get around having to go through one of the other of the audio drivers on my laptop. Any elaboration is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I siad "If you don't hear the latency, do you have a line out of the amp..." So it wasn't meant as a suggestion to avoid latency. Audio Interface; such as one connecting via USB would avoid the soundcard in the machine altogether. http://www.sweetwater.com/c695--USB_Audio_InterfacesFind one in the budget, then ask a few questions to see if anyone here has used it or had problems with it.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant about the line-out..
Ah, ok, I understand. I should look for a audio interface that has (perhaps) a usb interface and (in theory) allows me to bypass the audio drivers altogether (since the mic input on the laptop goes through the audio drivers).
I will investigate this more thoroughly. I greatly appreciate your time rharv. Tim

If I were get an audio input interface device, and it provides me a USB connector on my laptop, how will realband (1) be aware that an audio signal is there to use, (2) know to disregard any input coming across the input drivers and use this signal instead? Thank you.

That is what the Audio drivers window in Realband is for; to select which drivers are enabled and which are priority (in order) if more than one is used.
It is 'aware' of the possible options because the devices are installed as sound devices inside the operating system; RB just asks the system for the available devices and drivers.
I assume your notebook is fairly recent and has USB2 ports available. You may even have firewire another option.. you never mentioned what the system was.
