Thanks Dave - I would like to play and record more, but these fingers are showing they have a limited life. Seeing people smile is it's own reward.
Thanks for listening and watching!

Thank you Laurent. I don't consider myself a good singer, but I try and get the best out of what I have - so thanks for the compliment.

LOVE IT!

Yes, the world needs more smiles.
We have positive quotes posted all over the place.
They are to remind us to keep our joy and share it with others.

Your vocals and instrumental performances are very good.

The video was excellent and very supportive of the narrative.
Real clips … yay!!!

The mix sets up a really good soundstage on our monitors.
Everything has its perfect spot and the dynamics are ace.

Enjoyed the both the song and the backstory,

J&B

Andrew,

Very cool. A lot of your stuff has that "Sgt. Pepper" thing going on. Nice!

This track really grabbed me right from the start. The songwriting is super tight, and the lyrics just hit perfectly for this vibe. Everything gels together so well. And the production? Very crisp—everything pops and feels professional. Love it.

Thanks J&B!
I really appreciate the all-round good review given. I have to admit I am often unsure of my production, but when I go back and listen to some of my earlier mixes on earlier songs, I can hear where I have improved.
Thanks for the comments on the video also. I enjoy looking for ways to illustrate my songs.

Thanks David! I have been immersed in that Sgt. Pepper soup all my adult life, so I guess it’s bound to come out. I’d prefer to think of myself as a White album* listener. Sometimes, I feel like Sgt Pepper is just too much sugary sweetness all at once, and I need some ‘savoury’ that the white album provides - its rough edges and its genre range.
Thanks for listening and your generous comments!
Andrew
* I have to thank my good friend K-Dub Ya (aka Lee) for putting a recording of the White album on a cassette for me back when we were 15-ish. In my mind, I am still used to ‘Julia’ finishing 15 seconds early when it was cut off when the tape ran out.

A great song with an important message.
I’ve worked with people from all over the world, and a smile when you meet someone for the first time says more than a thousand words and breaks down all language barriers.
As far as the genre goes, I’d say the song has a 60s or early 70s vibe - old, but in a good way.
Enjoyed my listen.

Gee, I don’t even remember doing that 50 years on Andrew!! You sure do have a bear trap memory. I wish I could take all the credit for having the White album myself, but alas it was my big brother’s. He had a great selection of vinyl and I hate to admit it, but he had/has a great ear for good music…his LPs were readily plundered. Just for authenticity verification, perhaps you could check Revolution on your cassette. On the vinyl it would readily skip parts of it, it wasn’t until the advent of CDs did I ever hear Revolution completely. I remember listening to Revolution No.9 back in the 70s and being freaked out and scared by it. Ahhh…the naive years!!

Regards.

Thanks B.D.! I agree regarding the smile greeting. I also agree about your genre comment - I succeeded in my aim!
Thanks for listening!

K-Dub - David R and I came over one night for board games while your family were out. You swore me to secrecy about the recording so that your brother wouldn't find out. It must've been early in the album's rotation as the cassette had a good recording of 'Revolution'. I found it novel because my Dad had a vinyl copy of the 'Hey Jude' US compilation album containing the heavy rock version of Revolution, so to hear the White album version was an eye-opener. Regarding no. 9, I listened to that many times, holding the view that if listening to an album, one had to listen to the whole album and not cherry-pick. Consequently, I have developed a fondness for phrases like 'Eldorado', 'The Watuzi', 'Riii-iiigh-iiigh-iiight on', and 'If you become naked'.

There you go again! Bear trap mind…. perhaps I’ve suffered one too many concussions! I don’t remember you and David coming around and playing board games! What did we play?….Squatter? (Sounds rude these days), Coppit, Booby Trap (,,,that too!).

I think with #9, it was the ghostly sounds, ooh-ohh-ohh and reversed dialogue that haunted me the most.

Regards

Great subject, A smile costs nothing, but it's still an investment, one day you may get double the return. I'm still a natural pessimist, but it was very rewarding to read your backstory smile

You have natural skill to write original pop songs. This new one sounds is a good example, melody and chord progression feel natural and catchy, the bridge has especially nice contrast to verses and chorus. The simple band supports well and your vocals blend in nicely. The YouTube version sounds a little better, is it still the same version as on SoundCloud?

BTW. I finally figured out your songs remind me of music by ... Ringo Starr (I've been listening to his EP3 lately) smile

Thank you Janne! When listening to music I liked over the years, I’ve always wished I could write songs as good as those artists. I guess we all want that. I’ve created my own library of well-known songs (over 2000 with lyrics and chords) and that process exposed me to the chord underpinnings of each song, so it was kind of an analysis in a way that has probably done my own songwriting some good.

Soundcloud and YouTube have the same audio track, so any difference arising would come down to how each platform renders the audio I guess.

Thanks for the recommendation of Ringo’s EP3 - I’d never heard it before.

Thanks for listening and commenting!
