Chasing Time

I wrote “Chasing Time” after spending a few nights recently at a Country Music Festival.
The song came out of that in-between space after the lights faded and the highway felt endless on the long drive home.
It’s about long distance truckies and the kind of people who keep moving, chasing moments, memories, and miles they can never quite catch.

Hi Izzy!
The people of Tamworth would be proud! That train style has a good measured pace and you’ve given the fiddle and double-stopped guitar plenty of space to work within. Lots of opportunities for a bit of scootin’. Your vocal is good as usual and Mel hasn’t disappointed either - she sings along with harmony like she’s a girl you’ve known and liked since high school. The reference to Channel Nine caught my colloquial ear, but maybe you were referring to CB? I dunno.

Yee-hah! I liked it!

Andrew

Great song, great vox, GREAT LYRICS! Solo instruments were brought in and out expertly to excellent effect. Feels faster than 83 bpm, lot of energy. I'm not a huge country fan, but I'm a big Izz fan and this really delivered! Great work!

nice. This reminds me of old country music and the days of the old trucking songs.

A short festival story: I spent 3 days, and nights, many years back, at a BlueGrass music festival. Our band had won a battle of the bands at the music park venue a few weeks earlier, and the owner of the place hired us to play a few sets but mostly because we had a PA system big enough to handle the size of that outdoor venue. I was "blue grassed" out by the end of it and I didn't even write a song about that experience. One of the more memorable things about that weekend was I was sleeping in my van right beside the stage where the power amps for the PA were setting when I was awakened by the "Thump" of someone turning on the mixer after they had turned on the amps, almost immediately followed by a freaking banjo at 7am on a Sunday morning. A gospel bluegrass band decided to start the day with an uptempo gospel song. I didn't want to hear any BG music for months after that weekend.

Any, yeah, cool song.

Hi Izzy

You’ve said you spent a couple of days at a music festival, Tamworth I assume? You didn’t say whether you were performing or just part of the throng. Look, the quality of your work in my mind would get you a gig at any festival. And this fits in with that Tamworth country feel. Lyrically, you always excel and this is no exception. Great use of styles and the whole guitar, banjo, steel etc.etc. It all works well together.

Love yer stuff Izzy, kind regards

Hi Izzy, I couldn't make it to the festival, otherwise it would have been really fun for you, and maybe we would have made a Dutch song about those petrol prices. They are *so* high here; it would have caused an instant revolution in your country! Everyone here is completely fed up with it too...

I'll start with the lyrics; they are very creative, but that actually applies to all your lyrics!
And then your singing: the way you sang them gave me the image of a man who is terribly bored, partly because he still has a long way to go and partly because his life isn't really anything special either.
And as a result: all in all, it turned out to be a very beautiful song. I enjoyed it!

So glad you went to that festival, Izzy. What a terific result. Love this song. The melody moving like that supports the whole lyric, like a boundcing ball on the staff. Man, I spent a lot of time on the road back in the 70s, good buddy, and it was fun listeing to the truckers' stories. I'd even stop at truck stops if I had a full tank. Man, I wish I had your song to share with them. This one would have easily rose to the most played song on CB radios across the country. Speaking of country, you really grabbed the sense and fashioned it into a fine driving song. This one will be on my SC playlist i use for driving. Maybe I'll stop at a truck stop to see if the stories have changed. Don't be surprised if you hear this one on your CB.

Enjoy whatever happens!
