FOR A LOVE LIKE THAT

My wife loves Broadway musicals. (season tickets to the Straz in Tampa)
So I get dragged to them all the time.
Last season absolutely Sucked.
This season was surprisingly good. I actually enjoyed several of them. That is unusual for me.
I did not expect much from "The Outsiders" - based on a 60's-best-seller-made-into-an-80's-movie.
Turned out to be the best we've ever seen (and we've seen all the biggies through the years).

The songs in "The Outsiders" sound "more like what I would write" than the usual Broadway musical.
That got me thinking...

I thought that This I-Love-Tammy Tattoo might work as a central idea or catalyst. (I had just recently posted it).
So I gathered 16 of my songs and created a story idea weaved through them.
I explained this to my wife and told her she had to write the "book" (the term used to label the manuscript for a musical).
She jumped at the idea. Had it finished in a couple of weeks.

In the story, Tammy is so shocked by "Billy" getting an I-Love-Tammy tattoo, she leaves.
She ends up tending bar in Ybor City.
When her new bartending friend "Lina" asked what her story is, Tammy explains the tattoo thing.
Lina lets Tammy know she's crazy to give up something like that.
I did not have a song for that situation.
So I had to write this one new song to complete the list...

I wrote the song, created BIAB tracks, took the tracks to Studio One and sang it.
I uploaded the vocal to Audimee to have it turned into a female vocal (it's a girl song).
Basically, it (Audimee) gives you the exact vocal (the way I sang it) in a different voice.
(done this for several of the songs that are sung by female characters.
I would normally ask Janice to be my "girl singer", but this was a little too much to ask, I thought...)
I then regened the BIAB tracks in the new key and remixed.

The BIAB stuff:

Style is _ROKAMER.STY (Pop American Guitar)

RealTracks in style: ~388:Bass, Electric, Metal Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 629:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopAmericanDirty Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 632:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopAmericanMuted Ev 120
RealTracks in style: ~405:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 3438:Guitar, Electric, Soloist BritPsycPopBallad Ev 065
RealDrums in style:NashvilleEven8^6-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, HiHat Open

Harmonies created using Melodyne.

Cool tune.

Welcome to the dark side.

Doesn't it feel good testing the AI waters?
The cool thing about Audimee is what it can do while still retaining the underlying groove of your vocals.
In this case, it shows through in the phrasing and vibrato. A female FJ as it were.

The song has a good rocking groove.

Edit: I believe you can get Audimee AI to generate a harmony rather than using melodyne to do it.

Great, great song with an uber infectious groove. And of course, primo lyrics. So many lines I could quote, but I especially liked the UFC reference. To my ears, Audimee singers are not as good as Suno. But I understand you're getting a female analog of your own voice, so there is that to consider. (I could hear you in the vocal, for sure). Interesting that this was inspired by a musical. It will be interesting to see where you go from here with this. I did miss your own vox because they are SO darn good, but I understand the needs of the song. Great work, let's hear more from this source of inspiration!

If I didn't know any better, I would have thought it was Chris from Blue Attitude singing here, even though her voice has a bit different timbre.
Pretty good vocals.
I'm not 100% sold on the vocal harmonies, to me, it sounds like Melodyne doesn't work as well with Audimee as it does with human voices.
But I know from your work with J&B that you're pretty good at harmonies, so just sing the harmonies as well and send those to Audimee too.

The band you chose is perfect, just like your production.
The lyrics and the story are also very good, but I already expected that from Mr. "95% of all songs should be love songs" himself grin
I can't wait to hear it in the context of a full-length (Broadway) musical!

Hi Floyd!
Interesting reading of the context and origins of this song. I agree with Bob Dean about the Pat Benatar vibes - which is good. I’d love to hear the flow of songs in order, to hear how the music tells the story of the musical. In that sense, would it become a concept album?

Uber cool, Floyd. VERY strong write, can't wait to hear how this nests with the rest of the songs. That band is really cooking, too. The rhythm section is rock solid, and that soloist sounds very into it. Can definitely hear your trademark style in the vocals, but the vocals can stand on their own for sure. Nice work with this all the way around.

Wow, this sounds great Floyd! Love the heavy groove.

I'm amazed at the vocal, I can sort of tell it was you but only because I'm listening really closely after reading your notes, I think if you hadn't told us I wouldn't have guessed. Makes me want to try it myself! wink

BIAB lead player is good, but I'm surprised you didn't record your own part, I think your chops are as good as his.

Great music as always, Floyd, enjoyed very much.

This had me hooked from the intro! In all aspects this is a brilliant cruising rocker, plus I'm surprised at the switch to Audimee vocals, which are excellent. An incredible band and arrangement!

FANtastic, Floyd. Love the whole idea. Hey, I've sat in many orchestra pits for college productions (although i never went to college), so if ya need one, please...

Man, what a great idea, and i really like how you're developing it. This song and Tammy's Tattoos!!! This is gonna be the best thing of '26 for sure. I also hope the "book" will be available for purchase. Love this stuff.
It's really cool how you can create a whole musical by stringing (mostly already) written songs. That in itself is genius. If genius is singular, you are genii.

Wow Floyd that is really well written and arranged . . . It's another of yours that goes in my "Damn I wish I'd wrote that" listen to list!

I'm jealous as I have never been able to write a 'good' song for a female vocalist. A couple duets I think are really good is as close as I ever got.

My only nit pick would be the AI vocal. Now I probably wouldn't have noticed had I not known it was AI but there are some odd tones and artifacts if you really listen. Almost but not quite human sounding yet.

Absolutely great song though - someone like Carry Underwood could probably make that a big hit

Very much appreciated, Rob.
The Audimee model suits my need here - it is quick and easy. And this is intended for a "storyboard" for the musical. So any lo-fi-ness is "okay"...

Thanks a bunch, Bob.
When I first got this mixed with the female vocal and regened BIAB tracks, my first thought was "...that has a Benetar vibe!" (which I was quite pleased about)....

I've listened carefully to the harmonies (based on your comments). I find nothing objectionable about the them - and, certainly, adequate for the purpose. If I need "real" harmonies, I know the best harmony singer in the world smile (and she is included in some of the songs being used).
I just used the free 15 minutes that Audimee provides to get the conversions I needed...so using it for harmonies is out of the question - I have 9 seconds left. After this (the "storyboard" for the show) is finished, I can't imagine needing to use this stuff for anything else...

Perhaps, as we get close, I'll post a complete song list. That list would not necessarily tell a complete story without the necessary story/dialog to direct it. But as the story unfolds, all the songs do deal directly with the content...and fit perfectly as it goes...

I love the feminine side of FJ.
The tech did a great job of retaining the you in that vocal...I can hear "you" singing it as "she" does it.
The double tracking/bvox work a treat too.
The song - excellent.
Perhaps you should duet with you on a new one.
Excellent song, production & mix.

Good one!

What an ambitious and creative project, which of course you completed with ease.

I can most definitely hear you, Floyd, your style and delivery, in the Audimee generated vocal.

Hi Floyd,
I read everything you wrote about how you came up with this song and also about how you transformed into a woman. Uh, only in terms of the vocals, of course!
I think the song sounds really great; a good rhythm, a good melody and lyrics (naturally), and also that female voice.

The funny thing was that while I heard her singing, I heard you singing too. And it was also funny that I read that Ray said almost the same thing. Oh, and Scott Olson (above) as well.
This doesn't mean there is anything wrong with that female vocal. Not at all! It just means that I have heard so many of your songs, and know your lyrical structure a bit, which is why I heard you in it too.

I immediately looked up Audimee on the internet. I didn't know it. It looks good/promising, although I did think their harmony examples sounded a bit artificial. I'm going to try it out soon. Thanks for the tip, so to speak!

So, all in all, it is a very beautiful song, Floyd! Including that lady. Can we now expect that only female voices will be heard in your upcoming songs?
Regards,

Hans

We agree with Bob Dean on the Pat Benatar vibe.
Power, passion and attitude that both you and she have are combined beautifully here.

The BiaB session guys have good attitude also.
Those drums pop and solo is excellent.

I can just see the friend looking at Tammy with amazement. Why?
She didn’t realize how lucky she was to have someone love her that well. 😊

It’s such a cool musical project for you and Deb and we can’t wait for the project’s completion.

Way Cool and creative to the max!

Someone mentioned Pat Benatar. Yes, definitely a PB type song. Interesting about Audimee. I can tell it's you singing, the phrasing, the tonal quality, and the way you attack the notes, but so clearly a female voice. I'll have to try it sometime. Good song!

Band-in-a-Box® 2026 for Windows® Special Offers Extended Until January 15, 2026!

Good news! You still have time to upgrade to the latest version of Band-in-a-Box® for Windows® and save. Our Band-in-a-Box® 2026 for Windows® special now runs through January 15, 2025!

We've packed Band-in-a-Box® 2026 with major new features, enhancements, and an incredible lineup of new content! The program now sports a sleek, modern GUI redesign across the entire interface, including updated toolbars, refreshed windows, smoother workflows, a new dark mode option, and more. The brand-new side toolbar provides quicker access to key windows, while the new Multi-View feature lets you arrange multiple windows as layered panels without overlap, creating a flexible, clutter-free workspace. We have an amazing new “AI-Notes” feature. This transcribes polyphonic audio into MIDI so you can view it in notation or play it back as MIDI. You can process an entire track (all pitched instruments and drums) or focus on individual parts like drums, bass, guitars/piano, or vocals. There's an amazing collection of new content too, including 202 RealTracks, new RealStyles, MIDI SuperTracks, Instrumental Studies, “Songs with Vocals” Artist Performance Sets, Playable RealTracks Set 5, two RealDrums Stems sets, XPro Styles PAK 10, Xtra Styles PAK 21, and much more!

There are over 100 new features in Band-in-a-Box® 2026 for Windows®.

When you order purchase Band-in-a-Box® 2026 before 11:59 PM PST on January 15th, you'll also receive a Free Bonus PAK packed with exciting new add-ons.
