Link: [*****] The [*****] [*****] (Before The [*****] [*****] [*****] You)

Preamble:
The last time the forum software censored one of my poetic outpourings beyond recognition, I was annoyed.
And angry.
But since then, I've grown up.
For this song, I declare everything that the forum software does to my lyrics to be art.
Part of the Gesamtkunstwerk.

The song:
The dark, depressing winter is over.
The flowers are beginning to bloom, the bees are back in town and busily collecting pollen.
Birds are singing in the trees.
A fly is sitting on the balcony railing, sunbathing.
Spring awakens.
So does the little punk in me who, together with my ever-present inner child, decides to write a song.
To quote one of my inspirations: "If you don't go over the top, you can't see what's on the other side"

Enjoy the suffering, and write something...

Title: [*****] The [*****] [*****] (Before The [*****] [*****] [*****] You)

(Verse)
[*****] the radio, they bleep all my lines
Cleaned-up versions with words that don't rhyme
Smile for the sponsors, pretend it's all fine
Rebellion [*****] up by content-warning signs

(Verse)
[*****] the rent, [*****] the debt, [*****] the clock on the wall
Kids go hungry while bankers have it all
Laws get rewritten for inequality’s sprawl
[*****] every [*****] getting rich from the fall

(Pre-Chorus)
We count our scars while they profit off wars
And laugh behind bulletproof glass

(Chorus)
[*****] the [*****] [*****] running the show
Spreading fear so critics lie low
Watching the poverty spill and grow
[*****] every [*****] who profits
From woe

(Verse)
[*****] the wars sold as freedom in pieces
Children learn drone names before they can walk
Hospitals bleed while the stock lines float
Wealth’s piling up while the hunger increases

(Verse)
Everything’s fine, just stay in your line
Count your likes while everyone strikes
There's nothing to worry, no need to be sorry
Relax in your bubble and enjoy the trouble

(Pre-Chorus)
But why the [*****] should I keep my mouth shut
And be treated like some [*****] mutt?

(Chorus)
[*****] the [*****] [*****] running the show
Spreading fear so critics lie low
Watching the poverty spill and grow
[*****] every [*****] who profits
From woe

(Bridge)
They tell us to wait, obey, and comply
And never question or simply ask "Why?"
Watch how they count their profits and lie
And toast to the chaos they multiply

(Chorus)
[*****] the [*****] [*****] running the show ([*****])
Spreading fear so critics lie low
Watching the poverty spill and grow ([*****])
[*****] every [*****] who profits
From woe

(Outro)
So, bleep this song and bleep its truth
Bleep the rage you can’t fully mute
[*****] you
[*****] you

B.D., energetic, passionate and brutally real. You flex a HUGE dynamic range here, and it all fits and flows perfectly. The (amazing) vocals do the whole whisper-to-a-scream thing perfectly, too. The mix is LOUD but perfectly articulate.

A very complex song to put together, I'm sure. For the listener, it's just a wild and thrilling ride.

Super job!

Hi BD!
Great heavy metal song about a topic that is getting everyone irate - it seems to be affecting the world over. I chuckled when I read that the drum RD is PraisWorshipUptempo. Uptempo indeed! The mix sounds really top class and a good choice of vocal.
Regarding the lyrics - there are plenty of rhymes in there! grin
I only watched the video once because I encountered Australia's new age-verification laws (unless it's YouTube responding to an 'adults only' setting?: I had to do a face verification online through a 3rd party private verification app after scanning the QR code that popped up - to prove my age. I wasn't sure, but I thought I saw a message pop up afterwards categorising me as 'weathered raisin'. smile
Don't get me wrong - I fully support this type of tech to ensure that young people don't see what they should be too young to view. Just wanted you to know that I jumped through hoops to have a pleasurable viewing and listening experience!

good song, GREAT message, the lip-sync was amazing! Funny, I thought we were supposed to have a revolution in 1970 and deal with all this *****. But it never happened. Very professional presentation, I wish somehow I could watch how you work and improve my own songs. That'll never happen either, of course.

GENIUS.
What?
GENIUS. This is pure GENIUS!
Ya think?
In this case I don't do 'think', I'm just saying fact. Everything about it is 100% first class. The lyrics, 100% relatable. The vocals OUTSTANDING! I gasp in awe. I only wish that I could get that perfect production quality, but first I'll need a new PC and a new address. I love all of your material, but for me this is the very best song yet.
PURE GENIUS.

You know I like this one, Brain. Fascinating how it developed. When i read the words i wondered how you were going to get them into a melody. But no surprise, you did amazing. What a terrific job from germ of an idea to this riveting production. Yep, Herb said it best.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey Man,

You didn't answer my last question. Is that really you in the pic or is that AI?

smile

Now, on to the review. YouTube tube asked to take a photo ID of me or give a credit card number (you can't make this up) in order to watch this. There is no way on God's green earth I would ever do anything remotely close to that for any reason whatsoever.

So, sorry, I could not listen.

With regard to the lyrics, they seem pretty Dylan-eque other than the deleted words below which I can't read, but I am sure I can fill in the blanks.

I can see your point, but I don't think it is artistically necessary to use harsh language to make a point like this. Because you are telling the truth, in many ways, that truth often cuts harder and deeper with a purely poetic delivery instead of the "shock value" noise, in my opinion.

I also realize I am the lone voice outlier on the forum whenever this topic comes up, but I assume differences in opinion are allowed, and you don't have to agree with what everyone else says in order to stay "cool."

Maybe.

However, let me leave you with this, and I mean this with all sincerity: Down with the man, power to the people! Speak truth to power! Whatever Billie Eilish says! That's my view and I'm not backing down!

Music is a realm of innovation and freedom where musical choices and lyrics allow everyone to express themselves. It's up to the listener to listen or not. It's like humor: you can laugh at anything, but not with everyone.
Well done on your song and vidéo; it doesn't offend me at all, and it's done with great elegance.

That is a very good and appropriate comment, Laurent. It's the current regime that is shocking, not the song, and our natural reaction is to use foul language to express our dismay and distress. And the song does just that and wonderfully well. It is a lot different than using foul language to shock or just for the sake of using it to sound cool and trendy.

Thanks a ton, Ron smile

The making of the song was indeed very complex.
  • It started out as a Rap song (which is why there are so many rhymes), but I'm not Eminem and I never will be.
  • Then I switched to rock in 3/4 time, but halfway through I got stuck because it lacked the necessary rage. Back to the drawing board.
  • In the end, I decided on 4/4 because it allowed me to better implement the desired dynamic and tempo changes.

That was quite a ride...

I apologize for creating a 18+ video, YouTube notified me via email, so I didn't notice it at first.
Here in Europeland, nobody would even care about that.
But that's just the way it is.

I really, REALLY appreciate what you went through just to listen to my song, Andrew [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

The number of rhymes is indeed a bit unusual compared to my usual songs, but when I wrote the lyrics, I had a Rap song in mind.
Only to find out the hard way that I'm not Eminem and never will be...

Again, thanks a LOT!

BTW, I just read some help pages: If you have a YouTube account, it seems you only have to verify your age once, and then you’re done with it for the rest of your life.

Thank you, Rob, for your kind words and your thoughts on what should have happened long ago but hasn't.

As far as mixing and production go, that would only make sense if you had the same DAW as me, because 95% of the plugins I use are standard Cubase plugins.
However, if you need help with a specific song or audio track, feel free to send me a private message - I might be able to help you out in some cases.
Principles apply regardless of the DAW.

I had to pass through the gate keeper's portal to watch and listen. Luckily it was just signing in - no way I'd provide ID to Goggle & Co.
Nice bit of modern, high gain rock in the very popular genre of symphpopmetal with femme vox.
The narrative - yes, indeed.
The music - fits the genre really well but I'm not a fan of that guitar tone personally.

I told you, Brain!
That censorship watchdog here is strict. What it did result in, however, is a totally unreadable title, which in turn generates a lot of interest!
If this Forum was placed in my country, or yours, the watchdog would have added some more f**k words, I think.

I also told you how great the song is! And the vocals, wow! Also the lyrics and video are great too. I really enjoyed it all.
But I wouldn't make it, myself. My voice is too low and it's a bit too wild for me.
Well..., in about a month or so I will release a House song. Than maybe we can compete about wildness ;-)

F bombs? We'd say about average for one episode of so many series nowadays. smile

We're late to the party but we've read all the comments and, for us, DC nailed it.
Regarding the narrative it needs to be said in whatever way grasps attention.
And it was very well stated.

All of the tracks and the great mix yielded a stadium filling sound.
It setup a standout soundstage on our monitors.
Simply EPIC! And really driven home with the video. Wow.

Kudos and a helluva great production!

I'm sorry, that wasn't planned, but it seems to be part of the 360° experience of this song.
My distributor behaves also pretty, um, complicated because of the song.
I wouldn't have given YouTube my data either, the song isn't worth sharing that information with them.

I think I'd be one of those f*****s if I don't give good review for this song laugh F-word used here as an instrument, usually used as a punctuation mark by young people, I can handle that but hopefully in smaller doses next time wink

You've managed to get the maximum amount of anger out of the vocalist. And together with the tight guitar band and great selection of BIAB instruments, this grows into the epic Praise Worship Uptempo song as the style describes. The dynamics is once again admirable, both in the arrangement and the vocal work. I sign your message, why is it more ok to bomb children, but not to say f***, expressing as loudly as possible the desperation of fighting against real problems that they want to sweep under the rag...

Glad I joined YouTube more than 18 years ago, so I didn't have to prove my age wink I really enjoyed the suffering so mission complete laugh

Hi BD.

Wow! That opening piano is brilliant. Then the song came along. I'm literally completely spellbound. Everything about this is music par excellence. This is one of the most lyrically powerful songs that I've ever heard. Moreover, what you say really does need to be said (over and over again), and there is no other word in the English language that can amplify feelings and transmit anger like the f*** word.

The music is amazing. Not only do you have a sublime melody, but your arrangement and video are also extraordinarily good.

By every measure, this is super-polished and superbly engaging.

Well done on your song and vidéo; it doesn't offend me at all, and it's done with great elegance.

I fully agree, John.

Hi BD.
Your title brought to mind a line from Roger Miller's song "The Code Of The West: do unto others before they can do it to you."
I couldn't find my pass to get through the Google gate but
I assume it's a f.....g good song as you're known to be handy with that sort of thing.

Yeah, you're right, here in Europeland, we're a bit more relaxed about swear words.
Banning a word has never worked anyway.
