Hi, last week created a RB file via a song I wrote BnB and it worked great. Built a new song over the past week, opened it up in RB and see things are playing but no sound; new song plays fine in BnB. I've tried all the driver permuations with no luck, Win11. Hooked up my Yeti mic and am able to record and hear, however none of the other tracks have no sound but tracks are active. Please help, pulling my hair out here!
I have tried restarting PG apps, RB & BnB, restarted computer, still no sound. I have seen an Exception in RB as well this week, maybe a rebuild of it would help?

then.. 2..post back any clarification you need as a result of step 1.... and also post back the info requested in the above thread includeing your windows sound settings for recording and playback INCLUDEING advanced tab settings.
3..dont use mme....youll get latency. you should be useing a proper asio usb interface. post back what your useing to get sound out of your pc as has been requested INCLUDEING settings. dont use onboard pc sound....it looks like you are ??
lets start there...

Hi, I don't think its the computer. After checking the output device setting did the sound check and it worked yet RB is still silent. I've tried the laptop speakers and headphones via jack, still don't hear anything. I did some screenshots of the Audio settings and tracks. I don't see anything as Muted however there are Bars that I used this option for Ahs and Ohs, guitar soloist, trumpet soloist, however there activated when needed, chorus, bridge, etc. I'm not doing any MIDI myself, yet, just leveraging BnB options... I have a USB Yeti mic, has worked nice in the past, this is what I recorded a track to see if that input was working and it is. I haven't done the A to D interface this time around.

Do you have another program open that could be using an ASIO driver? Often ASIO drivers take control of the output sound and stop audio programs from using the output channel.
With the recent screenshots I notice a couple show MME as the Audio driver, but it shows as Windows Audio in the background of a different one.
If you scroll thru the images and focus on the Audio Driver Type it changes in one of the screen shots. Is this the one where it works? I point it out in my screen shots of what you shared below

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
your setup is not like those used by the majority of recording studios. I would suggest you get a USB audio interface.... and one that is multi-client meaning you can run many programs at the same time. See pg tips forum multi-client thread for the typical interfaces used by recording studios.

Hi again, this has gone from bad to worse as RealBand is unable to open a file; Tried with 3 songs, one of the files I was able to load in RB earlier today and it worked, which leaves me to believe its something to do with something within the songs, a mute, as someone asked about but I haven't found that fix and won't now until I rebuild RealBand. I've rebooted my laptop a few times and then restart RB, it'll load and say its loading the song but it won't anymore. I'm thinking its time to re-install; is it possible to just remove and reinstall just RB. I didn't find RB in the apps list nor did I find an uninstall executable, but I do see the BnB uninstaller... Contacted PG Music help, said just delete the folder and re-install.
I do have an ASIO device and tried it but it didn't change the result, silence.

When you say "it worked" does that mean that the song successfully played?
When you say that "it's loading the song but it won't anymore", did the tracks all appear, etc. or did the process just stop completely?
If it was my system, I would rename the existing BB folder to something like BB-Bad and then just do a new install following the install prompts choosing the defaults with no changes. Be sure that it doesn't try to install anything into the BB-Bad folder. Also be sure your new shortcuts are directing BIAB and RB to run from the BB folder, not BB-Bad.
I would also download Audacity and try a sample recording and playback there to see if your record and audio settings are working there just as a sanity check, even though in the end your BIAB / RB settings might not be the exact same when you find the answer for those programs. This step would just tell you if anything works and what those settings were so you could try them in RB / BIAB or tells you if nothing works and then you can work on that as a start which might open the door to your BIAB / RB issue for a direction to pursue for a solution.
Finally, I would create a simple song in BIAB with a few chords and a style and save it with a name like TEST123.SGU or something. Then I would load that file into RB and see if it loads and plays.
It's all a part of the process of trying to narrow down and isolating the problem.
(If you don't have anything you would want to scavenge from the old BB folder later after you fixed the problem and you just want to start over, you could just totally DELETE the existing BB folder along with all the sub-folders and skip the rename and just totally start over from scratch. That's what PG Music was suggesting, and that would give you your clean installation of BIAB and RB).
And, just to make sure .. are any of the tracks Muted? Or is one of them SOLO'd .. that would prevent all the other tracks from making sound.
I just now had a chance to read more thoroughly on this thread.
I would bet that you nailed it in your response above. SOLO would definitely be a suspect if he recorded with his Yeti and could see and hear it play but nothing else could be heard. Unfortunately the screen shot with the tracks doesn't show what we need to see on that issue.....
The disk space issues as you mentioned is a good thought as well.

Justanoldmuso, Try +++ THIS +++ link. The link is to a thread created by a developer in a DAW forum.
This link gives an overview of what Microsoft has released and has some Discord and Github links where the Microsoft head of implementing MIDI 2.0 explains the goal, issues Microsoft is facing and how you can download beta releases.
Thanks for the info much appreciated. Looks like Microsoft is still working on this?? IE Leading Edge. discussions seem to focus on midi support... but no info on the audio side. Ie .audio recording wav files.
Obviously a lot of this is discussions between Developers.
Still confused LOL.
Best to you..

thanks but i'll continue recommending sound interfaces that come with multi client compliant drivers (MC).... until i see some sort of official announcement in the music creation mags. there is a major reason why...and it possibly might interest some people...
what ive found is...when i use MC drivers...no probs at all useing pg and other companies apps. it seems other people useing such on these forums... same deal. for example the nice RME interfaces... ive never seen on these forums a post from a RME user indicating set up probs with pg apps....which is one reason i set up the sound device thread in the pg tips forum. other people includeing myself same...no probs. see peoples comments in pg tips thread re useing MC driver/devices. maybe i'm wrong but i sense MC drivers are more robust perhaps ? (says he throwing it out there with the possibility of getting egg on his face...lol.)
frankly i hope now all devices will become MC under win 11. because it means even a 80 buck device will do it. it could open up the market for affordeable devices. (ps as always i highly respect your comments....) ....................................................
to BY if were me if you dont have a very low latency MC compliant device like one of the ones i linked to listed in pg tips forum and sweetwater i would consider getting one.
just make sure you can return it in 30 days which allows plenty of testing time. thats what i do....and just note...just because someone has a beast of a pc (what do you have ?) ive seen probs many times because isuch wasnt optimised for music production. (i list many sources of such advice in my pg tips sound devices thread.)
hth.

Good day everyeone, spent quite a bit of time this week with PG team working on this, up until today same results with lots more variations attempted. I received an email last night from PG to install an update to RB and now have sound using ASIO driver only, no MME of Windows drive combos work. I don't understand why the audio settings that work in BnB don't in RB. I understand a USB device is best but still would like to PLAY the song through another external device, like my PA, so I can hear as it would be played to an audience. Thanks for all your guidance on this, glad to be back working on my music.
I have about 1TB of disk space

Just out of curiosity, what sound device are you using to play through the PA? IIRC you're using a laptop, so are you wanting to play through the headphone output of the laptop? If not, how are you planning to get the sound out to the PA?
Also, if you go to the "device manager" in the Windows settings (right click the Window and choose Device Manager) under the "sound devices" do you see an item that says "Realtek"? And do you have any other sound input / output devices listed there?
In the past I was trying to come up with a solution where I could record and play back on my USB interface in RB and then play back using an internal soundcard in my computer all through my monitor speakers and I ran into similar problems such as you are experiencing. I ended up putting an AB switch in which did solve some of the problem but opened up PIA stuff in other areas IIRC. So in the end I just took the easy route and record on one computer and use another for playing through the internal sound card if I need to..
I also wonder if a Windows update had occurred during the time between when your system "worked" and when it didn't. That sometimes has the potential to mess things up.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
