So much to learn so little time... You have now jumped into the deep end of the pool. Have patience and learn a little at a time. It will all make sense eventually.

First, Yes the VSTSynth64 does have a "lock" button. When I set exactly the Channel and Patch I want to play for a song, this remains unchanged when I close and open the song. In fact as best I know it remains unchanged for ALL songs. So the lock effects every song.

BIAB assigns a Channel # to each instrument track according to this listing:

BUT - Understand that while BIAB may call the track "Guitar", the song may actually have a "PIANO" on the track. So you often need to look deep to see what the actual MIDI Channel # is for the track you are interested in.

Then there is the Patch # which identifies the characteristics of the assigned instrument ( is the Bass and upright or an electric for example). Here is where the GM standard can be not exactly standard. Some will name the patchs "slightly" different in different applications. Finally there is the BANK #. Also, these patch #'s do NOT follow each other well between what the BIAB Tracks says and what the VSTSynth64 assigns. Best I recall BIAB does not update the patch # based on what you may set in the VSTSynth64. That can be confusion. But I am going too deep for you right now, so I will stop.

Let me know if this helps. I can do a video at some point - which by the way I have done in the past but I can't find it. And to be real honest here, this is NOT really as simple as I may be making it sound! crazy So go slow. Find some sounds you like and try to use them and don't try to go too deep too fast.
