I bought BIAB 13 some years ago and never used it, I now decided to use it to make some midi tracks. I have a Focusrite 4i4 3rd Gen' and using a Yamaha PSR 175 keyboard, everything is ok except for the latency. I've searched the internet to try and find an answer followed instructions but no way can I get rid of the delay. I intend to get a recent version of BIAB but only if I can get this problem sorted. I'm new at this game and I'm no Tecky so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

To reduce/eliminat latency with BIAB you must use a ASIO driver. According to Google, the Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen includes a native, high-performance ASIO driver for Windows. This should be compatible with current BIAB? BUT, I don't own one to verify and more important 13 years ago is a long time - I can't verify if that would work with ASIO either. So what driver are you using with BIAB?

BIAB – 2026, Reaper (current), i7-12700F Processor, 32GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM, Motu Audio Express 6x6 - My SoundCloud.

Two ways might help:

1) Connect the Yamaha and computer audio outputs to the Focusrite. Listen to the Focusrite audio. The Focusrite audio output automatically compensates for latency.

2) Connect the Yamaha audio output to the Focusrite and the Focusrite to your computer. Open Band-in-a-Box. There is a utility style that plays midi audio in one channel and audio in another channel that lets you manually adjust the latency setting until both sounds happen at the same time. I believe the style is called LATENT.STY

Use Focusrite ASIO (see image)
work your way down the arrows
You have 4i4 and I show 18i20, but they should look very similar, just fewer in/outs on 4i4

Please go to Options | MIDI/Audio Driver Setup and answer the following (please be exact with what it says):

What is your MIDI Input set to?
What is your MIDI Output set to?
Is Use VSTi/DXi checked or unchecked?
Is Route MIDI Thru to MIDI Driver checked or unchecked?
What is set to the VSTi/DXi Synth to? Is it set to CoyoteWT, or something else?

Then click on “Audio Settings”. Does it say MME, ASIO or WAS? Then click “Audio Drivers”. A new window will open. Please answer the following:

If available, what driver is currently selected?
What is your Audio Input set to?
What is your Audio Output set to?

Cheers,
Ember

Thanks for your reply, I have ASIO installed but doesn't make any difference. I have followed instructions by other members but still no change. Thanks anyway.

Hi Ember, My input is set to Focusrite USB I have tried output Focusrite USB and Microsoft GS wavetable, VST/DXi is unchecked as is midi thru to midi driver. Audio settings is set to ASIO, there is nothing about drivers so I assume I'm using the Focusrite drivers. nothing seems to make any difference. Thanks anyway,

Look at my image again.
There most certainly is something about Divers!

Maybe also explain as clearly as you can when you hear the latency; what are you trying to do and how.

Maybe I didn't follow all of your connection details. The Yamaha PSR-175 does not have a direct USB port. To connect it to a computer, you need to use a MIDI to USB interface cable (such as a Yamaha UX16 or a generic USB MIDI adapter) to connect the 5-pin MIDI OUT/IN ports on the back of the keyboard to a USB port on your computer. I don't recall you mentioning this. Then use the provided Focusrite ASIO driver with BIAB setup in the MIDI driver section for the appropriate input and outputs of the MIDI to USB cable as others have said here.

IIRC didn't BiaB have an ASIO issue back then. I seem to remember messages about it. But I could be wrong.

What are you using to get MIDI out of your computer?

I use a very old Roland UA-1A USB to MIDI interface, with no noticeable latency. I'm sure there are newer models.

There are no controls, no drivers to install on the computer. I suppose they use generic MIDI drivers because it just pops up in the dialog box.

I have a rack full of hardware MIDI modules and an old Korg i3 keyboard attached, and it works just fine.

Just an idea off the top of my head. You might already have this covered.
