The trouble with vocal doubling is that you are doubling up on the bad parts too.

I wouldn’t want to outlay for Melodyne, but I do use ReaTune pitch correction in Reaper that I use sparingly. I think on my next recording (well, the one after the next I am about to release) I will spend a bit more time touching up the main vocal and see how I go without the doubling.
