Bought a new Computer this weekend, Lenovo, with Widnows 7, 8 gigs Ram, 1T Byte hd and a GForce 320 Graphics card, which I plan to switch out ASAP. Also bought a Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Soundcard for my BB output. However, I have a 10 yr old surround sound speaker system (4.1) that I bought with the old IBM Vista XP computer, which I hooked up to the soundcard. It worked perfect on the IBM computer. It was connected to a Soundblaster Audugy 2 Soundcard. The problem is, that only two of the speakers work plus the woffer. I think it's a defective soundcard. My son thought it was the cable, but I tried new ones last night and that wasn't the problem. Is there a setting in Windows 7 somewhere that will allow me to get this thing working. I think tonight I'm going to try and switch soundcards and put the old Audigy 2 into the new PC. I think Soundblaster people have a Win 7 driver that I can download that will work. I bought this thing at Fry's and tried to find an M-Audio Soundcard which Mac reccomended, but with no luck, so, I settled for this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you load the drivers for the X-FI? Have you looked in control panel for a control interface? How about clicking the little arrow in the bottom right corner of Win7? That is where the taskbar stuff shows now. Creative stuff usually the interface loads into the taskbar. Sounds like you only have the regular two speaker setup enabled in the X-FI. You may haveto right-click the audio icons in the taskbar to get to the menus you would want.

Thanks for the response. My Soundblaster Speaker Set up shows 4.1 set up but no sound coming from top two speakers. Get sound from bottom two and woffer. Yes I did download the driver, I thought the same thing, however the box the soundcard came in said it was Win 7 ready, so I assumed the driver for it was there. Re-loading it didn't help. My son tried the speaker sound set up from the Windows Control panel yesterday with no avail. I'll know better tonight when I install the Audigy 2 SoundCard. If that works, I'll just take the other one back and get my money back. Thanks again for your help.

After you downloaded the driver from the Creative website and installed it, did you also install the Creative updates? That usually pops up after you reboot your machine after installing the downloaded driver, but you can go to the start menu and find it under the Creative entry. That will ensure you get the latest and greatest, to include the Creative mixer and other utilities.
Just a thought.

Notes at the Creative site for the new releases say you change the speaker configuration using the *new* Audio Console program insluded with the new driver download. It mentions 6.1 not working in Win7 but I assume 4.1 will work since it is not mentioned. http://support.creative.com/kb/showarticle.aspx?sid=61105Pick your driver, then click the 'Show Details' icon.

Changed to Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers, no luck, same problem. I did all the updates that John was talking about but that didn't help either. The soundblaster box says the card will work for 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound Speakers but I can't seem to get it to. I am waiting for a response from Creative as to help me fix my problem, so I will let the forum know if and when I get this resolved. Thanks, David

Don, you're hilarious.
David- Read Creative driver details closely. At the Creative site it says 4.1 is not supported in Win7, so maybe they are implying 5.1 and 6.1 are not either. You may onle be able to get the 2,1 system working in Win7 for that card.
So Win7 is supported, but not the surround aspect from what I gather. Maybe in future releases? May be worth checking their forums for others with similar problems..

Um... something you may want to consider before putting in your Audigy 2...
I've had my Audigy 2 for a lot of years and had really grown to love it... a really half decent sound (in my opinion) and all the connections in the front, etc
I have upgraded to Win 7 32 bit. After doing so I downloaded the latest drivers from Creative. Alas! My problems began. The card worked well enough but there was this random "popping" noise that made it impossible to use... very annoying. I went on a couple of other forums and found out that I wasn't alone with this problem... lots of people complaining about it but nobody had a remedy to fix it. For now I'm using my on-board sound but that's only because I just haven't had any time this summer to do any music work. But now with winter right around the corner I'm expecting to get started on it again. When I do start I'll be ordering an M-Audio card.
If you DO put in your Audigy 2, maybe you can let me know how it works out for you.
Bobby

I had a similar problem with an Audigy under XP some years ago - it turned out to be the driver. An update fixed it. I would guess that a driver update, assuming one exists, would help. Creative seem to have this driver writing problem. They usually start out OK and then turn to cr@p which then gets fixed... You could always try KX Project drivers... http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/

I've used KX drivers for years with both my Live 5.1 which I no longer have and now my Audigy2ZS Notebook. I get 4 pairs of outputs that if you use the panning in RB can give you 8 seperate outs to a HW mixer. And BTW this is all with WDM no messing with ASIO. I use 6 outs for RB. The other set of outs is the effects return to my HW mixer. The effects send from my mixer goes to the input of the card. In KX I've installed a Reverb unit. So the A2ZSNB not only serves as my outputs it also serves as my Real Time effects processor. Great setup.

Update: Here I am 10 days later with no luck. I went to the Creative Web site and they sent me instructions on what to do. I was to uninstall my Creative software and then install three drivers that I downloaded. Did all that and it still doesn't work. Only left and right speakers work. When I try to play BB or Music Time Deluxe, no sound unless I set my midi input to something other than Creative, like GForce wave table..I think that's the name of it, not at my computer at home to confirm, so I don't believe it's working at all. The Box it came in says it will work on 5.1 and 7.1 Surround sound. So far, I don't think so.........
John, you are the one who told me to run the updates. There are about 15 updates in the Creative web site. Should I run them all or just the three they gave instructions to to fix my problem?

I would at least get the Creative Mixer to make sure you have control over the CARD, since Windows gives you limited control. I don't have the Audigy, but the X-Fi gamer and have to use the Creative Mixer to control certain things.
Also, if in the end, you want to use Soundfonts, be sure to get the Soundfont bank manager.

Ummm, I'm guessing this may be a silly thing to mention, but have you checked the speaker setup in control panel? Sounds and audio devices; Volume (tab) - Speaker Settings section at the bottom; Advanced button.
This allows you to define the speaker combo that's actually connected.
IIRC, there is also a related access to controlling what speaker combo is connected in the Creative software (don't have a Creative card in this PC so I can't check to confirm) but I believe there is a specific Speaker Settings applet available in the start menu for just this purpose.
I do know that if this/these settings aren't correct you will only get stereo.

I'm using a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS card on a clean install of Win 7 64bit and I DID NOT install the Creative drivers. Instead I let windows install it's own drivers. It still shows up properly in the hardware manager and works fine. But you don't have all the useless garbage that Creative packs in their software.
In my experience, a driver from Creative does nothing but create problems, even for their own hardware. Generic has always worked better for me. Go figure.
My next soundcard will not be Creative. It sounds fine and has some good features, but any company that can't deliver working drivers for their own equipment should find a new line of work.

Hi, Bob -
Are the Microsoft drivers giving you 5.1 (or 7.1) or just stereo?

John,
My 5.1 speakers are in storage, so I can't say for sure on Win 7 64, but the MS drivers with the same sound card in XP did give me 5.1 without all of the baggage and problems I had with the Creative drivers on previous XP systems, plus it still correctly identified the card.
I think the MS drivers are a kind of "lite" version of Creative.

Bob, I'm willing to try anything. Where do I get these Windows drivers for the X-fi soundcard? Do I un-install the Creative stuff first? I assume so. thanks.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
