Hey all,
I just upgraded to BIAB 2025 for Mac, and when I try to open the song picker I get the "Spinning Beach Ball of Death" and have to force quit. I even tried leaving it go for a while, but after 4 hours I gave up. I had been using 2024 earlier and it was fine. I installed 2025 and it started. I ran the 904 update and it's the same.

I'm running a 2018 Mac mini, MacOS 15.7.4 Sequoia (last available upgrade for my model), with 16GB memory, and 228GB available HD space. I checked the system requirements in the PG FAQ, and my Mac should be compatible. I've restarted my computer a couple times. Nothing helps.

Has anyone had this issue? Can anyone think of a way to fix it? Delete everything and do a clean install?

It may be that something went wrong with the install. Did you install this all to the internal HD of the Mac, is it running from an external HD/SSD, or is it split between multiple locations?

Sequoia 15.7.5 has been out a few weeks and contains a number of bug fixes.

I would reinstall BIAB.

Try a Safe Boot by shutting down and holding the Shift key as you start. When you get to the login screen, enter your Admin password. After your desktop icons have finished rebuilding, restart. This clears System caches and resets many functions to Default.

Everything is in the default location on the internal HD.

Thanks for the suggestion, but booting in Safe Mode didn't help. I just booted into SM, then rebooted into standard mode, and before opening anything else started BIAB and hit the Song Picker. Instant beach ball. I do occasionally get popups like ""Band-in-a-Box" would like to access data from other apps." which I take as a sign that something is working behind the scenes, but like I said, it remains frozen for hours, forcing me to force quit.

Could it be an issue with going from 2024 UltraPAK to the 2025 PlusPAK? Should I have just spent the extra $ for the 2025 UltraPAK upgrade?

Hello,

No, that shouldn't be an issue an issue at all.

Just a few questions for you:
When you ran the install manager, did you give that full disk access?
Is everything is installed to the internal drive?
Did you install overtop of your existing version?
Does Band-in-a-Box have full disk access?
How much space is available on the drive you are running from?

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks!
Catherine

Did you click OK/Yes?

There's the 'individual' SongPicker, which you can open by shift-clicking the SongPicker button (the button that has an image of two eighth notes, to the left of the song title), and there's the SongPicker that's part of the 'MultiPicker' dialog, which you can open by ctrl-clicking the button. By default a click without a modifier key will open the MultiPicker, unless you've changed the default.

The MultiPicker can also be opened several other ways. One way is by clicking (or ctrl+clicking) the Style button (the button directly below the SongPicker button). You can then click on the SongPicker tab in the MultiPicker dialog.

-See if there is a difference opening the individual SongPicker vs. MultiPicker SongPicker.
-Check if you can open it if the MultiPicker has already been opened, by switching from another tab like Styles or RealTracks.
-It may be that there is some kind of error trying to open the folder you have set as the home folder (default is /Applications/Band-in-a-Box/MySongs). If there is no way for you to open the SongPicker, you could reset it by closing the program and renaming the file intrface.bbm in the Band-in-a-Box/Preferences folder. You could rename it intrface_old.bbm as a backup. This would return many program settings to defaults.

Let us know what you find.

I tried shift-clicking and it opened! I even tried closing and reopening to see if it was a fluke, but the SongPicker opened. Now I can click without the shift key and it still opens. I don't know how that fixed anything, but now it works!

I never changed any default locations, but if this happens again I'll try some of the other things you recommended.

I have no clue what ultimately fixed the problem, but thank you to all who chimed in to help!
