I knew this day would come, but I am not really prepared - other than to just upgrade the Artist Pro Account for $99/year, which I am prepared to do. However, before I do, I wanted to check with you guys in case you have a better recommendation for me.
I have no intention of marketing my projects - fact is I do a lot of cover tunes (which only rarely do they object to) and which share only with my friends and family. So shared storage space in the only SoundCloud feature I am interested in.
Any other recommended options?

$99/year can be a pretty nice price for storage. What is the space limitation? I mean if it's an extra gig, maybe not so great. If you only share them with friends/family, maybe just isolate a machine at home and have it serve up a site/link for the cost of a domain. I did that on a previous machine
Or use your OneDrive or Sharepoint or something... as long as the file is an mp3, m4a etc most desktops and phones will pop up a player for the link, and you can also share whole folders with whoever ..

Hi Dan, I have heard that some people just closeout their Soundcloud account and just start a new one using a different Soundcloud name. I don't know for sure as I have had an Artist Pro Account for a number of years now.

There are are a number of issues I have with SC PRO but it’s only 27 cents a day? Bet you can handle that!

I had pro account that I downgraded, thinking of other options. There are so many things about souncloud that I dislike, so switching would be a good thing.
#1 I never wanted any paid exposure, but to get large enough storage, you need pro account which sort of includes "promotion". I had standard account for 10 years, then upgraded to PRO when I needed more space. When I had 100 or so tracks posted under PRO, it would be naturally to assume that there would be at least a few dozen of comments from whoever they "advertise" to... In 3 years of PRO that I was paying them, I think I got like 5-7 comments that were not from my friends, family and people from this forum. I don't care about this sort of things, but just to show you how "strong" their promotion is.
#2 When I tried to listen to my tunes without logging in, I've had ads running! Why did it happen? I am paying them for hosting and they are still squeezing $. That doesn't go well with me.
#3 Their Bluetooth syncing is horrible. They have some kind of overlay that would often not play in a car unless you re-sync BT and reload soundcloud page. Last thing I want to do when driving.
#4 When I had a question, I filled out well hidden contact form.... 10 month later - still no answer.
------------ I downgraded account a few weeks ago. I already have a domain, and storage is pretty cheap. To host all my music, WAV's- 24 bit, I would need 4-5gigs of space, which should cost around $30-$50 a year. My plan is to just do a very simple "play list" site with built in player and live happily ever after.
I appreciate all the comments and advice. Here is what I would like to try: I have a free Google Drive account which for years has worked very well. I have 9GB out of the full 15 GB open. And I can likely cut that in half easily. So I effectively have ~ 7GB available for a Folder of my Music.
Can I test a single file link here and have you folks tell me if it is feasible? If this goes well I will next send a Folder Link to more than 1 file to see if you see a collection of song links.
1)Do you see only the single shared file in a single directory? 2) Do you see other files in my Google account? 3) Do you need a Google Account? 4) Does it actually provide a flac player or can you only download?

I tried it - Song came up and played fine for me . . . Google drive is a way I share music and stems for the studio
Went straight to the individual song and nothing else I did not have access to anything other than the song in the link I have shared files with people who did not have a google account with no issue I could both play and download the file

OK Great to hear. Now here is a link to the Folder which contains ~8 of my songs. Can you see them all and pick which ones you would want to play? And do you see ONLY that folder and its contents, nothing else?
I'm browsing in Chrome. The song opened right up and can be played by clicking the transport Play button. I can't navigate elsewhere on your account. If you care about downloading, your song can be downloaded. Don't know if this is adjustable.
I've used Google drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and YouTube to share music files. They each have their pros and cons. I just use SoundCloud for a more polished look and better stats...

Can you see them all and pick which ones you would want to play? Yes I see them all and was able to play each that I tried
And do you see ONLY that folder and its contents, nothing else? That is correct . . . Google only lets me see them as "Shared to you drive" and I can not browse your other folders or files
EDIT - I did see both the flac and mp3 files

Hi Dan, it played fine here. The song is excellent.
1)Do you see only the single shared file in a single directory? I could only see that one file. 2) Do you see other files in my Google account? No 3) Do you need a Google Account? I did not have to sign into my Google Account to hear your song. 4) Does it actually provide a flac player or can you only download? It played as soon as I hit the play button so it must provide a flac player. I could also DL it.

1) Yes, only the file you shared is visible 2) No 3) I don't think so but cannot be sure because I have a Google account 4) No, it is not providing a player. On my desktop (music) Win 11 PC it popped up a player and played perfectly. But on my Android phone it did not probably because I don't have a flac player set up as a default (nor would most people) however it scanned my system and offered to open it with Youtube Music or Spotify or Musicolet (an AWESOME player for local files) and in all 3 cases it played fine. Also, both desktop and Android offered the option to download and share.
You might consider storing your files as mp3 to remove that one tiny potential barrier since most folks access the web now with mobile and if your audience has no music player a flac won't work for them.
Thanks so much I think I see a path forward. I appreciate your assistance.
Everything in my SoundCloud account is backed up on my computer HD (~50 mp3/Flac song recordings) so it would be easy to upload to Google Drive if the space is there. I am now going to see how much clean up I can do of the old files and folders in my Google drive (15GB total) with the free account.

OK, I am now see the "compatibility" downside AudioTrack and JJJ have pointed out. I will factor that into my decision. Thanks for pointing these conflicts out.

I see all the songs, both on desktop and mobile. Same as before, I can play any flac or mp3 song on desktop but mobile says the flac files are unsupported and then offers to open them in one of my apps that support flac (which your listeners will not have by default). Mobile plays the mp3s with no issues.
Dunno if this is important to you but one of the main things I like about Soundcloud and Bandcamp is they give you a place for liner notes, lyrics and cover art. Personally, I won't post my songs without those things.
So, one other suggestion I have is...keep your Soundcloud account and create a new one under an alias with a different email.
