I discovered my Windows Device Manager power settings were all reset to the default on my production machine [why does it do that!]. For now, I had just turned everything on full blast and the problem went away. I am reassured it wasn't something to do with the Fender device driver or allowing a program to take exclusive control of a device. It was plain old power saving that I was sure was off. Now I can fine-tune the settings.

Ray, a lightning strike on the neighbor's tree took out all kinds of stuff - dishwasher, couple of circuit breakers in the panel, and worst, my Yamaha MIDI synth (just a week before a symphony concert for which I was making last-minute revisions to my music).
