Link: Ashamed Of What I Feel 2 weeks ago Hans (Birchwood) told me that he relly liked my Song "A Fool" which I wrote 2023. I had completely forgotten about that song, probably because I was never 100% satisfied with the guitar sound. That means, ya'll have to deal with another rewrite of a song. The song is basically about the same problem as in the movie "Harry and Sally": A boy and a girl are best friends until one of them falls in love with the other and from then on everything gets complicated. The song was renamed to make life a little easier for my increasingly incompetent non-distributor. Things you don't want to know but I'll tell them anyway: - The 1002 guitar plays the perfect arpeggio, but the attack is too dominant, especially when panned L/R.
I tried to tame the attack with EQ and reduced the transients, but this sucked all the life out of it. And I was too lazy to play it myself (again). So I told an AI to play the same notes at the same tempo, but with smoother attacks and a little more bling, such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, harmonies and stuff. After just a gazillion attempts, I’ve finally achieved a result that I’m really happy with. In my opinion, this is a good example of how AI can be used. - I never liked the thin sound of the guitars in the chorus in the 2023 version.
I wanted something heavy and dramatic, yet at the same time sad and melancholic. "Evolution Rock Standard" (a VST plugin, played on the keyboard) managed to pull that off pretty well. - At 66 BPM, the song is actually a bit too slow for my taste, but only at this tempo does it have exactly the mood I had in mind.
- The MIDI from the Piano 1602 is played back as a pad with my favorite weird synthesizer (Absynth) and is layered beneath the BIAB synthesizers, barely audible.
But it adds a lot of warmth to the sound.
Feedback (the good, the bad and the ugly) as always higly appreciated. The usual technical information:Style: SENSE.STY (yes, really!) The Band:Bass: 1929, 1523 Drums: NashvilleEven8 Guitars: 1002 (see above), 3731, 1596, 2x4158, 1000, me Synth: 3784, 1840, me Piano: 1602 (see above) Vocals: AI (main) + Synthesizer V (harmonies) Tracks Stats for those interested:BIAB: 12x Me: 5x AI: 2x You can find the lyrics in the next post.

Title: Ashamed Of What I Feel
(Intro) I look at the sky At the fading sound Of what I never said Never said to you
(Verse) Sadness all around The unspoken thoughts That never found a home A home in your heart In your heart Can't look you in the eye Afraid to say a word Ashamed of what I feel
(Pre-Chorus) You've always been my friend My little brother from another mother
(Chorus) That is why I thought I can't love you But I do I don't wanna stay Your sister from another mister I want more, I want your love I'm a fool Such a fool
(Verse) When I am at home and the night is long I feel alone, but it's different from before We know each other so well But you never realized That there's something deep inside That friendship can't satisfy
(Pre-Chorus) That's why I don't wanna stay Your sister from another mister
(Chorus) I want more The worst case that could be for me That I would be the master of a big disaster Then I'd lose it all, my friend, my love I'm a fool Such a fool
(Outro) A fool A fool A fool A fool A fool A fool

Hi B.D. I haven’t heard the first version. Tricky relationships; fear of others’ opinions; unrequited love … just the stuff needed for a good rock ballad … and you delivered. Love the description of your instrumentation - it all sounds like it was meant to be.Well done. Andrew
