It really depends on what you want to accomplish.

A number of people are using Synth V which is essentially a VST that allows you to play a part on your keyboard and add the lyrics. It uses one or more of the available voice databases and produces a fairly good vocal track. It's completely editable. You can also give it a vocal stem and it will extract not only the melody and phrasing but it does a decent job with the lyrics which you can edit easily. You buy Synth V from the company that makes it as well as the voice databases and you have them available without a subscription.

These that follow are all subscription based AI. You can subscribe monthly to try them out or yearly if you are planning on doing a fair amount of music with them.

Another option is Suno. It also has the ability to construct a song with vocal from your lyrics and a prompt describing the style and other details. I also believe it can build a vocal track using an audio stem that you provide. Version 5.5 is the most recent one and simply put, it is amazing with what it can do and the absolute realism of the music and vocals.

Another good option for just the vocals is Audimee. It's designed at this point to just do vocals. And it does them well. Input a stem and choose from the dozens of voices available. This is, in my opinion, one of the best AI generated vocal options available. The quality and character of the voices is simply amazing. It can work from an extracted stem or you can sing a part and audimee will convert it to one of it's singers. Obviously, the better the quality of the stem you can give it, the better the results. Also note: I have given it a complete vocal stem and it did most, about 90% of the track really nicely. However, in a few of the higher parts, it didn't do as well and worked out with weird notes. The solution was to cut that particular part into a small clip that only contained the part it messed up and send just that clip back through the AI. Since its only dealing with a small clip, it will often process the part perfectly.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.

Hi Herb!
I don’t use any AI vocals, but that is a really good summary of the options for those of us that don’t know much about the topic. Thanks!

I use ACE Studio. though not cheap for a permanent license (they do have a rent to own plan, also), it does what I need in the box (my computer) rather than online. Like most Asian companies that do this thing, it has yet to generate a voice that sounds convincing in American English but I don't care. I use it for demos only and the lack of a convincing voice highlights this fact. They just released v.2 which adds latin and choral voices along with instruments.

The reason I went with ACE is that I can give it a MusicXML file from a notation app such as Finale and the voices can 'sing' the notes and words from the page. For my work, this is huge and well worth the money.

I use Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro (which Herb referred to as Synth V above) from Dreamtonics (https://dreamtonics.com/synthesizerv/).

- the vocal tracks it generates can be indistinguishable from actual recorded vocal tracks
- they are NOT using stolen vocals like Suno and other AI services, instead, they are more like the BIAB model of paying artists to perform and then licensing those performances
- they offer tons of voices but it can get rather expensive!
- to generate a vocal track you can play it on your MIDI keyboard, "draw" the notes directly using the MIDI editor, import a MIDI melody or import a recorded vocal track with melody, timing and lyrics detected automatically (but imperfectly, so you'll need to do a fair amount of cleanup)
- I am very happy with all of their voices that are American English but not at all interested in those with an Asian accent as they don't work for my style pf music
- for a male American English type of voice I like Liam a lot
- for a female American English type of voice I like Etta a lot
- male voices I have are Liam, Hayden, Kevin and Asterian
- female voices I have are Etta, Felicia, Natalie, and Solaria (I also have Mai who has an accent but she was free so...)

I have thus far only used this tool for generating harmony parts to my vocals but I could see this being super helpful for generating high-quality demos and even for releasing as finished works if you don't plan to sing your songs yourself.

Another Synthesizer V (short Synth V) user here.
Synth V isn't an AI like Suno, which means you can't just give it a command/prompt and it'll do the rest.
Instead, you have to edit the notes, tempo, and lyrics (down to the syllable level), in other words, the entire prosody, in one way or another.
It can be tedious at times, but you have complete control over the result.
If you'd like to hear some examples: On my YouTube channel, all the songs from “Can't Get To The Other Side” and older are done exclusively with Synth V.
