Hi all.
Once again in unfamiliar genre territory, but we're only here once so why not try?
I've changed the mix and settings about a dozen times or more and now I can't see the wood for the trees or sky for the stars. Can't even remember which BIAB tracks I used and which I discarded.

Is there too much bass pumping or kick? Vocal too loud?
Thank you
Vic

Feeling like a castaway,
on an island with no name,
looking over at my phone.
All apologies in vain.
They just run away like rain.
Now I'm dancing alone.

Lost in space.
Floating through the stars.
Lost in space.
Wondering how you are.

along the path of hopes and fears.
Maybe trying much to hard.
Dreaming what can't be redeemed,
of so many different schemes,
in this failing house of cards.

Vic,

Everything about this song works. Love the write, tracks selections and your excellent vocal delivery. Mix is just right.

This is a new favorite for me...

Beautiful mix of the instrumentation and vocals. Nothing wrong there at all - the bass is fine - plus it's a great song both re chord structure and lyrics. It's very, very well done.

A great song with a memorable catchy chorus, sung well and backed by a great band.
The mix is well-balanced, bass and kick go well together with the rest of the band.
Personally, I’d use a little less reverb on the vocals so they stand out better and the sibilants are easier to control here and there.
But as it is, it’s already pretty good.

My first thought was "what a nice song - really lovely." My second thought was that maybe there was too much reverb on the lead vocal. I guess you could say that's a matter of taste, but it seemed like a lot of reverb to me. Sorry to report that, I know you've described how much you wrestled with the mix. I really like the song, it's quite memorable. The mix isn't bad as it is, but I think it would be perfect if you cut the reverb back a bit on the vox. Up to you, of course.

Very cool song, Vic. Love the arrangement and your breezy vocals. Delicious hooks. Very fun and relatable.

+1 on the vocal reverb. Maybe a delay would reflect a "lost in space" narrator as well?

LOVE your song!

Hi BD.
The effect is delay but you are probably right. I was trying to get a sort of spacey sound but, couldn’t get it right. I’ve now dialled it back a bit.
I’m plagued by sibilance.
They seem to be around the 3750 k area where I placed the de-esser but I also had to do a lot of it manually. My ears aren’t good in the high frequencies so I can only hope I got it right now.
Thank you for the info.

Hi Vic!
I love that! The acoustic, bass and vocal work together like they were just meant to be. Rhythmically, each is performing to a slightly different level of busy-ness, that provides each some room to operate within e.g. syncopated feel to the acoustic; vocal with sometimes longer held notes; and the bass steady beneath.

The vocal of the title line feels like it is very natural.

Sounds great!
Andrew

Thank you sir.
I hope I have resolved the delay effect now.
I’m happy you liked the rest of it.

You don't sound out of your comfort zone to me one bit, Vic, this is excellent! You are such a great lyricist, one of the best here in my book. Track sounds great, good choice of instruments and good mix. And your vocal sounds great too (I'm hearing the new mix).

One of your best songs I think, loved it!

Excellent wriote, Vic. i especailly like the lyrics, and you crafted the perfect melody and band to present it. I like how you break it down for the bridge, very effective and dynamic. i think the bass and kick support the song very well. Normally i think of a kick hitting all quarters is for a dance song (like disco) where the dancers have no rhythm and need the constant reminders of the beat. This one changes that pattern enough to keep the dancers misstepping. smile

Enjoy whatever happens!

Mario.
I must have played all the old styles in all the old bands of my time.
Rock, blues, country, folk and even Hawaiian. I often get confused with what I'm doing now.
I'm very grateful for your input.

Cheers DC.
I did have to dial back the delay as it seemed to distort the vocal.
Glad you approve of my efforts.

Thanks Laurent.
The guitars did leap out at me when I demoed them.
Just what I was looking for.
