Hey OM, this is a SUPER helpful roundup for anyone deep in the multi-client audio interface hunt! 🎛️🔥 Just to add my 2 cents: RME (like Babyface Pro) is rock-solid for MC stability, and MOTU’s newer M-Series (M2/M4 etc.) also handles it well in Win/Mac. For folks on a budget, the Behringer UMC1820 surprisingly holds up if you tweak buffer settings.

samlevy0515.
thanks for the comments. your selection of interfaces for someone to try is good.
fyi i'm very happy with my audient interface. nary a problem.
let me say a big mistake people make setting up a music production studio..is...when it comes to the topic of latency they forget the choice of pc is extremely important as well as the interface. a lot of people dont test out the internal latency of the pc itself. they just use any old pc for the job. eg my new pc i purposely selected for its very low microsecond latency. thus overall i get ultra low latency with my selected pc and interface.
(ps for any lurkers out there check out my tips re useing a pc for music production. the topic is discussed in pg tips forum.).
frankly samlevy0515 i think there is a huge need in the interface market for very inexpensive ultra low latency multi input audio interfaces. behr is the only one ive heard about.
happiness.

I know next to nothing about this, but the latest Windows developer's blog for MIDI 2.0 states:
"Now, every MIDI 1.0 port and MIDI 2.0 endpoint is multi-client, regardless of the driver or API used. In most cases, vendor-specific MIDI drivers are no longer needed or recommended, although they will still work if they are kernel streaming drivers.
Multi-client is available for all MIDI 1.0 and MIDI 2.0 apps and devices."
SO it SOUNDS LIKE multi-client is now baked into the Windows operating system.
Or not.

DC..re Mclient.
actually there was a discussion of this topic awhile back.. as always with tech the devils in the details...lol.
ive had trouble finding these details...eg...
1..is there a limit to how old the interface can be ?? 2..why hasnt there been big fanfare in the studio press ?? so the normal person that doesnt frequent developer sites is made aware. 3..its very midi centric...what about audio at various bit depths and sampling rates ?
yes its a welcome development but i feel more details are needed. the thing i like about it is it helps the muso with even a 50 buckie interface. so i'm all for it. but...and i might get egg on my face...i suspect some studio owners might encounter some type of probs...we shall see. i suspect it will impact the sales of high end interfaces as lots of people wont have to worry about Mclient going forward.
if everything is copacetic then there is no denying this is BIG NEWS, and all studio owners would benefit from knowing about it. sorry for me being a tad sceptical...but ive seen over the years when it comes to tech...well you get the idea.
happiness.

I’d almost forgotten about this thread but wanted to contribute that my interface is multi client. It’s the successor to several from the Presonus line like the Studio 192 and 184C, released under the new Fender name: Fender Quantum HD 8.
[Fender has also released Studio One 8.]
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Hi Matt.
What version of Universal Control are you using? I'm wondering if the current UC 1810c driver is now multi-client. I bought an RME audio interface for my main machine because I needed a multi-client driver and RME's drivers are super low latency and rock solid, and put my perfectly good 1810c in its box. When I bought an MS Surface Pro Snapdragon X Elite, I bought a 4th gen Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 because Focusrite had a multi-client Win11 ARM driver for it. I know UC is now in v5, but PreSonus and now Fender were never very good at telling us what was changed/fixed/upgraded in the 20 or so drivers available in the UC install. I would love to box up the Focusrite and put my 1810c back to work. I wonder when and if Fender will offer a Win11 ARM version of UC. That's the other concern.

My understanding is that the Focusrite units have had multi client drivers since Generation 3 at least. I moved from my Generation 1 and 2 units several years ago because I had other Presonus units and software (Faderports, Notion, Studio One 7) and I liked the workflow of the Universal Control software better, as well as the full integration. I remember several updates over the last few years. Fender introduced another version with the new Quantum line, and already issued an update. I’ll look for the number. You are correct, neither company gives useful explanations of what the updates are for. PG Music is an example of a company that does a great job with their explanations.
EDIT: Fender Universal Control on my system is now 5.0.0.110112 dated Jan. 7, 2026 I don't know if that is retroactive to Presonus equipment. Likely not?
