Lyrics: (I rewrote a couple lines)
Grab your coat, and get your hat
Leave your worries on the mat
Just direct your feet
To the sunny side of the street
Don't you feel a little pep?
And that happy tune's your step
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street

[Bridge]
I used to walk in the shade
With those blues on parade
But I'm not afraid
This rover crossed over

[Verse 2]
If I never have a cent
I'll be rich as any gent
Gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street

Rob,

Love this! A great rendition. The tracks selections and your harmonica are excellent. Really nice mix on this as well.

Your vocal is also a standout. I hear subtle touches of Mac Rebennack. Very nice!

Awesome!

Hi Rob!
I am aware of this song but only the final (title) line of each verse, so now I can say I’ve heard the whole thing. Your harp solo sounded as smooth as silk, and loved your scatting as well. The scatting pulls the listener back to wanting to hear words again, so it’s a kind of tension and release move.
Loved it!

Until now!! Until now my favorite version of this beautiful, bouncing tune was with Dizzy Gillespie singing. That is until now. Bob. Man, that harp is very special in this one, and I really dig the scat singing. What a woderful rendition. Swinging sensation.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Needs more finger snapping grin
I don't know the original, but this one is toe-tapping goodness.
Great band, great vocals (I LOVE your scating) and your harmonica playing is _really_ good.
Enjoyed my listen.

Rob, this is INSANELY good! Super arrangement, GREAT harp playing and AMAZING vocals+scatting.

The musicality of this is off the charts. Just SO playful and fun, and full of...FEELING. Happy feeling, too. Which is in SUCH short supply.

Love it!

Well, I would let that last note decay naturally a bit longer. But at least you know I listen all the way through, right?

Ha!

Excellent cover, with very cool instrumentation, including the perfect harmonica solo. It's something you could also create an instrumental of, say with jazz guitar and/or sax and/or piano solos to add to your harp.

Bob, an oldie but a goodie that I not only know but played a number of times.
This is a fantastic version. Great vocal and scat.
Super harmonica lead.
Loved that walking bass.
A fantastic cover.

OK, a random thought;

Thanks for such a great review, Bob!! I sang "Right Place, Wrong Time" and "Such a Night" for a band in the seventies, gave it the full Dr. John rasp. Fun days.

Hi Bob,

You really know how to make this song sound like it comes from the 50s.
Especially singing "bebelibida" etc.!
Your vocals were very beautiful and soft.

The band was also very good. But I really liked how your harmonica playing sounded!
Unfortunately, the ending was a bit too abrupt for me.

I haven't heard this PD song before. Good choice. Instrumentation sounds era authentic. And again, that harmonica is primo. Good delivery on the vocal. I like it real. The scat was great!

Andrew, the scatting had the same effect for me, it pulled me back to the vocal. Thanks for such a nice review!

As the saying goes, this song “makes us happy as all get out!”

There’s quadruple goodness in the band, your vocal, harp and scatting.
Of course we love the bass as Bud played swing arrangments on his upright for decades.

We can hear the Dr. John vibe too.
But also your vocal has a feel of the sassy lilt like Peggy Lee had.

Yeah, this is great and we felt like we were sitting in the little club with y’all.

Loved it!

Hi Rob.

I love this backing band. It frames your vocals and harmonica performances perfectly. It sound like you had a lot of fun putting this one together. Moreover, your enjoyment carried through into my listening experience. I very much enjoyed this.

TuneMonger,
Very nice song. Cool jazzy, bluesy and swing rhythm drums.
Really good vocal.
Nice blues harp solo with good tone.
Other instruments, especially the bass, were great.
