Hi, I posted this message at the end of a previous older thread, but I thought I'd move some of the old info along with my new post to freshen the issue up a bit, and with a new title. MIDI Styles: Changing most song variables (key, chords, part markers) generally requires a local, offline regeneration. Tempo changes and instrument mute, volume, or patch change will apply in real time. I copied a total midi song that was saved with the BLUGRAS1 style in BIAB to my android phone. I loaded the song into the android app using the Open - Files App. The song plays in the key that it was saved in, but I cannot change the key. When I Generate MIDI (Local) the screen goes back to the chords but nothing happens. The chord screen still has the original key of the song and the equivalent chords changes of the song in the bars. There is no change at all from the original key. If I press Play, the song plays, but in the original key. Nothing changes. I've tried several songs with the same results. This is the android version from the Google Play store. I am on wifi with the phone and my 2026 serial # has been verified by the app. Am I doing something wrong? That sounds like a bug. I'll look into it. It's been a while since I've tried the Android app. I still am unable to change keys. I've uploaded a simple midi only .mgu file, with no success. The app shows my key selection when I try to change keys but there is no change either in the song or in the bars. I tried the same thing with the song files that are included with the app. No change either. No change whether I do a regeneration or not. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app from the play store. No change. Has there been an update to the app that solves this issue? Thanks. Also, exactly where do I upload user .mgu midi only songs to the app and where do I upload user styles from a Windows 10 PC that is connected to the Android phone via file transfer? Where are the built-in songs and styles located in the Android system? Is anyone out there able to change keys in a midi only .mgu song, or am I the only one?

I loaded the ios app on an iPhone 13. Same issue, unable to change keys. So either I'm doing the process wrong, or it is not working on both Android or iPhone.....

Hi BluegrassPicker,
The Android update which should fix this key change error (and a number of other issues) is still forthcoming.
The file system of the Android app is not exposed to the regular Android files, so file transfer direct to the app from PC or Mac won't work at this time. If the files are moved to your Android files, the app should appear as a destination to share / receive them. From within the app, they can be selected from Menu -> Open - Files App.
Compatible file types are style files, MGU/SGU, and .zip, which can contain songs and styles. Nested directories should keep their structure. Style files are copied to the private styles folder, and available from the Style Picker, Local tab.
The iOS problem you've discovered I wasn't aware of, and will fix. We have an iOS update almost ready to go, and we'll make sure that changing keys is working.

Style files are copied to the private styles folder, and available from the Style Picker, Local tab. How do I copy a style that I created in BIAB on my computer to the Android app? IE where do I find the "private styles folder" either from the Android file manager, or through the USB connection to my computer. What is the specific path. And by "Nested directories should keep their structure" could you please clarify that in the context of copying a MGU song with its style from my computer to the Android phone via the USB connection. Thanks The iOS problem you've discovered I wasn't aware of, and will fix. We have an iOS update almost ready to go, and we'll make sure that changing keys is working. It's also not clear to me what the "transpose" button is for. If it's to play a song in a certain key and have the song display in the moving bars a different key, then that doesn't work on the iOS app either (at least on mine). Thanks for your replies and your efforts. BluegrassPicker

Importing a .STY file, or a zipped directory containing them anywhere will have them copied to the Styles folder, which is private to the app, and not accessible to the user. That means at this time the only way to delete a style is to uninstall the app, but this can be fixed in future. The style should be visible in the style picker, local tab, when imported. If a zipped directory containing MGU files and style files is imported, the styles will be copied to Styles, and the MGUs and their respective directories copied to the user-accessible Songs folder, again, in-app, and not visible from the Android file system.
The Key change function changes only the key signature value of the song, and the transpose will transpose all the chords entered to the new key, and change the key signature value. This may not be working in the current live build, but is fixed in the next update, which is nearing release.
