I've recently got the new version of BIAB, and I'm confused about a lot of the changes. Which I'll be asking you folks about a bit, I'm sure...but the current problem is that a song I'm working on is not regenerating properly. I've added new sections, and the old lead track is still playing exactly what it did before, which of course sounds pretty weird over the new sections. There may be other instruments not regenerating, either...when I hit the "Regenerate" button on the top taskbar, nothing seems to happen except the song starting (Usually it takes a few seconds to regenerate, at least with my older version). None of the tracks appear to be frozen. What's going on?

Couple of quick reactions:
Is this the new Mac version of BIAB 2026? or the Windows version? Since the Mac version was just released, that could be something missed. I first thought about Frozen tracks, but you checked that. Good. Is there an Audio track playing along? Look on your mixer and mute it. When you say 'sounds pretty weird over the new sections', what do you mean by that? If the tracks are changing, doesn't that mean the tracks are regenerating? Please tell us more.

It's the Windows version. But the song is from a previous version. I think I've narrowed it down now...it's an instrument that I added to a Style, a Steel Guitar. It's just not regenerating. When I try to regenerate a section of it with Track Actions, there is a message saying "There is no RealTracks on this Track. Would you like to select one?". I freely admit I'm not a whiz in BIAB, but this is weird to me. I think I can hack a workaround, but I'm just not sure why it's happening.

Krampus, Did you render the BIAB file to audio at any point in time? If so, this audio file will be linked to the BIAB file, and it will play automatically when you load the MGU/SGU file. This will make the song sound like it is not regenerating. To check for this possibility, have a look at the folder in which you keep the MGU/SGU file and see if there is an audio file. This audio file will have the same name as your song but its extension will be WAV of MP3 (or some other audio format). If such a file is present, either rename it to something other than the BIAB file's name (if you want to keep the audio file) or delete it. Thank you, Noel! I think that might be it. I had rendered it. I'll check...forgive my ignorance, but what is an MGU/SGU file? I'm unfamiliar with that term. There's so very much I don't know.

An audio file playing along was my first guess above. Noel has explained why it happened.
MGU and SGU are the two most common BIAB song extensions. S means song with no melody; M means song with a Melody track.

Krampus. It might be that your version of Windows is not set to show the extensions of files. (Extensions are the letters that occur after the period in a file name... for example my_song.mgu has an mgu extension. Where BIAB and music programs in general are concerned, it's very useful to have Windows setup to show extensions. To do that, follow the instructions below. 1) Open File Explorer. 2) Click on the "View" dropdown menu (#1 on the image below). 3) Click on "Show" (#2). 4) Select "File name extensions" ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=32609&filename=windows extensions.jpg) Regards, --Noel
