https://soundclick.com/song/15165315This is a revision from almost five years ago. The only change is the vocal. Rob,
This is such a great song. That is one smooth vocal - it works so well here. The band and arrangement is awesome. Love that sax solo. Excellent mix.
Loved it!

Hi Rob! I hadn’t heard the original, but I like this one! This is a fine example of a song with what I call ‘two speed’ instrumentation - there’s the rhythm section busyness, and then the electric piano with long-ish held chords - providing space for each to work in. I like that busyness of the rhythm section.
Your chorus line with it’s staccato pronunciation - I’m intrigued as the how that came about in the songwriting process. Was the staccato style added in the arrangement or was it there from the beginning? Was that line and its accompanying melody your first idea that you built the song around, or was did it fall out as part of the songwriting? Knowing your interest in prosody, was the lyrics first, music first, or both at the same time?

Really nice song, Rob. Slinky soul groove and super Bu-Ry-The-Past hook. Cool, laid back band. Super production. too. Yep, the Suno vocals sound better than adequate, as does the sax solo, BUT...well, you know...your vocal and harp performances seem to be getting stronger by the song, and I quite enjoy them. Color me selfish. AND...CONGRATULATIONS on your song reaching #1 on the soul chart! That's very cool as well.

What happened was that I basically "wrote myself into a corner" when the chorus came up, and I had this short leitmotif that I absolutely hated. So I added the stops to lengthen it some and add some interest musically. I still do not like it, but it's better. I'm pretty sure the melody and lyrics sort of morphed together in the writing of this song. It's been five years, but that's probably how the song was written. It's different each time I write a song. The exception to this are my original, 1930s styled jazz songs. They are all contrafacts.

This is an excellent song. There's nothing to say because, like with a pig: everything is good. It's a little joke, but really, it's great. Bravo! Laurent

A song this good will always sound good. I like the Motown feel, and maybe the new vocalist helped with that. i really like how you painted around your writing yourself in a corner with staccato strokes. Sounds terrific, Bob.
Off topic: Hey, i wish you'd convert to Kindle all of those wonderful stories you write. Really looking for to the Milquetoast novel.

I don't know the original version, but this one sounds _really_ good. Vibey smooth soul with a pretty good singer, good choice of instruments, nicely arranged and well produced. I like it

HI Rob.
This is very engaging. I think that your use of Suno is superb. I love the way you've used repetition and rhyme in the first two lines of each verse to lead the listener along. That's a very sophisticated lyric-writing technique. I listened on headphones and totally enjoyed it. I wouldn't change a thing.
