Well, pull up a rocking chair and pour yourself a glass of sweet tea, because this is a story that only Marty could narrate with such perfectly calibrated ironic empathy. This 'pot-meets-lid' tale of the underdog is the real deal—a classic yarn spun with just the right amount of grit and charm. 😉
I’m so glad Andrew and K-Dub Ya nudged you to dust this one off and post it; frankly, it would have been a crime against country music to keep it under wraps. Every one of your productions is a precious element of the wonderful 'Marty sonic landscape,' and this track is no exception. That Bumpkin Rock n' Roll Country backing is the perfect sonic upholstery for the story—it doesn't just support the lyrics; it drives the tractor. 🚜
We all love a good redemption arc where the snooty, entitled rich kid gets taken down a peg (or, in this case, gets his nose bloodied and ends up in the slammer for wood theft—poetic justice at its finest!). 😁
The musical arrangement is spot on—a textbook example of that tight, upbeat country-rock backing that drives the narrative forward without stepping on its toes. And I have to say, the choice of a "liquorice stick" solo was incredibly "interesting"—that clarinet brings a jaunty, almost vaudevillian charm to the track that elevates the "bumpkin" vibe to something truly memorable.
The ex-boyfriend might be behind bars, but this song is definitely a free-range hit. Another triumph from the Patch!

A classic Marty narrative with puns and lessons intertwined.
Love the band and, I don't know Marty, you always seem to get the right bassist for every song. Thanks, Ray. Puns and Lessons. Should be an album title. BiaB also satisfies all the needs for upright bass too. And yes, i was just telling someone the other day that when i needed a special Reggae bassist, you were kind enough to accept. I love the delightfully retro style of this charming song and the consistently polished videos.

The very first thing that struck was how warm, full and inviting this band sounded. I think a large contributor to that was the excellent bass and equally excellent vocals. I also really loved the lyrics, the story and the sound-effects that boosted the story-telling. From start to end, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

You are a great storyteller and together with your warm grandfatherly voice (love those low notes) and your steady bass playing, the combination is a flawless one, no need for a patch... other than for the sympathetic bumpkin. Great band, the clarinet solo sounds like made for this song, nice effects. Fun and upbeat song that wipes away all the worries in the world and will be hopefully played till the cows come home.
