This is the second song in the series where I'm reworking and re-recording songs that were written quite some time ago. This one was written about 16 years ago by Pat Bishop and myself. You can find the original version on my website if you're interested. This is a song about a couple of star crossed lovers who haven't quite gotten it figured out. They are madly in love but do little dumb things that cause issues but they know they are in love and trying to work though the things that come up, trying to talk about things. Ultimately, they don't want to lose this thing they have. The Kill Branch Studio Band: Drums: synth Mando: 1766 Synth pad: 1841 B3: 688 Steel: 369 Josh & Nora on vocals: Synth V & Audimee Piano, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar: Yours truly Notes: Bass guitar is my Epiphone Precision copy played through the Spark 40 with a clean but compressed model. The Acoustic guitar is the Taylor 314 recorded with the Rode NT2-A. The electric guitar is my 69 SG recorded through the Spark 40 with a Fishman model kicking out the jams and running hot. The Piano is Kontakt 7 with Alicia Keys software and a studio model. Mixed and polished in Sonar, a couple of plugs in a couple tracks, with Ozone 10 doing the honors on the master buss. Any other questions, just ask. Notes:2-25-26 A few tweeks to the mix. Nudged the vocals on one of the vocal phrases, nudged one section of the guitar solo, removed the piano on the guitar solo so it didn't run interference with the guitar. Beautiful instrumentation, arrangement and playing. Superb Synth V & Audimee vocals and a top notch production. Excellent song.

Good song. The male vocal sounded more contemporary and the female waay more vintage. Solo was good. The pauses in the melody irked me a little, but not a big deal. Nice job overall.

Vic That is a very high compliment. Both of those songs are masterpieces. I was actually thinking about the Rod Stewart and Amy Bell duet cover of "I don't want to talk about it" as a guideline for this song. If you haven't seen that...take a few minutes on YouTube..... chills on the SAX solo. Thanks

Hi Herb!
It was good to hear the evolution of the recording. I note that a few forum members post remakes/re tweaks of their songs from time to time. In your case, did you want to freshen it up, add elements that you wanted to improve the song, or were you hearing things in the original that you always wanted to change? I wonder how many of us are never quite happy (I’m not suggesting you were) with our song, and it’s only the passage of time after a lengthy recording/mixing process (that we begin to loathe) that we feel we can come back to it?
I really liked watching your 2011 video - it’s good to see a writer ‘in the flesh’ in their native habitat.

Herb, a really nice song, and worth holding on to. Fabulous production and great playing across all instruments. Nice use of BiaB to fill in the corners. Wide dynamic range on the vocals works really well with the arrangement.
That being said, I LOVE everything about your 2011 video. It's WAY more subtle but that subtlety works better with the intimacy of the lyrics, at least to me.
And THAT being said, I REALLY enjoyed both versions tremendously.
You've got some crazy chops.

Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums.
