Halfway to Handsome

I wrote this back in January, but then I contracted a respiratory infection that robbed me of my singing voice for over a month. After that, a couple of months ago I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder, which is a long painful recovery that robbed me of my desire to do any recording. But enough of my minor health plights.

I am hesitant to put this song out, but I haven't produced anything in a few months. The vocal on the verses is severely flawed, but I will redo that in a month or so. The rest of the song, the vocal is passable.

The idea for the song came from the phrase I thought of (halfway to handsome). I did know a Ginger Cooper in 7th grade who transferred to the local repressive religious school (think Gilead from the Handmaids Tale). The rest is pure fiction. It is sort of my metaphorical "roofie" song. The lyrics in tthe prechorus are stolen and adapted from the traditional Irish song "Galway Girl" (not the Ed Sheeran crap).

The last time I saw Ginger Cooper
They pulled her from the seventh grade
Now she’s putting me in a stupor
Telling me I got to behave
What am I supposed to do
Her hair is black and her eyes are blue

She said I’m halfway to handsome
She took me all the way home
She’s holding me for ransom
Oh mama, you don’t need to phone

She was rolling in their holy war
Where wine and dancing are a sin
We were standing outside her door
I didn’t think she would let me in
What am I supposed to do
Her hair is black and her eyes are blue

She said I’m halfway to handsome
She took me all the way home
She’s holding me for ransom
Oh mama, you don’t need to phone

I don’t want to be set free
Stockholm lady is invading me

She said I’m halfway to handsome
She took me all the way home
She’s holding me for ransom
Oh mama, you don’t need to phone
