BUT...i'm not gonna sugar coat it...whether a real track or a midi vsti...to find the sound picture you like for a song is WORK...auditioning lots of real tracks and/or midi vsti sounds....same for any non pg instrument product you buy.

ive had good results with pg real tracks for...
saxophone, guitar, bass, keyboards, piano and drum rd's.
but not trombone or trumpet. but thats just my taste.
might not be yours.

guitar/bass/kbd's rt's are the easiest ive found useing pg rt's.
as there are tons of pg rt's for these instruments...also synths.
i LOVE lots of the rt's for these instruments.
spoilt for choice.

i think you need to do what i do once a year....
viz go thru each rt and note down those that crank you up and those that dont. sure its work but really worth it...cos by accident for example i discovered the retro tremelo guitar i used on my song pretty girl.

you will find some real tracks or vsti that dont work in one song...
will in another. often its hit or miss.

at this juncture...if were me...i would also listen to instrument products on the net and you tube ie vsti and see what cranks you up.
but ive found there are no magical solutions.

to get that one sax sound on my granny song took a LOT of auditioning and testing of real tracks and listening to other products on the net.
ps the fx on the vocs used pg dx fx. the piano at middle was a pg rt.
the sax solo on the outtro was a pg rt. i lucked out...lol.
and the end guitar was a rt as was the song bass.
all instruments on the song were pg rt's includeing drums.
