Well, you should listen to your teachers, not me.

You're working on a lot of different things, and they're all important. You're picking songs that are currently - and likely will be for a while - outside your ability.

Nothing wrong with that.

At the end of the day, you want to be in control of your voice, to be able to create a performance that takes people on a journey. That takes a lot more than just singing well. But without those things in place, you won't be able to get to that next step.

Right now, it feels a bit like someone who can recite the lines of a play, but it's not convincing. But that's because you've picked big songs, that require a lot of skill to sing, to say nothing of emoting.

To answer the question: fix everything that needs to be fixed. That'll get you closer to where you need to be. It takes time to build these skills.

But also realize that technique is only a part of it. It's like a guitarist who practices scales. You need to be able to know the scales well enough that you don't think about them. But that's not enough to create a good solo.

In the future, you might add a song that's less a stretch, where you have less technical issues, so you can focus less on technique, and more on "inhabiting" the song, so to speak.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?
