Chords are generally stacks of thirds. For example, Cmaj7 is [C,E,G,B].

So you could write Em/C and get a Cmaj7 - [E,G,B,C].

By the same logic, writing E5/C would give a Cmaj7(no3), since an E5 is an E with no 3 - [E,B,C] with a C as root.
