That's the only time I've ever heard of a cat following it's owner on walks, particularly in a built up area! In my mid-20s I stayed a few weeks with a couple of friends who had a cottage in the Shropshire hills a few miles away from any neighbours and they had a tabby with the biggest bushiest tale I've ever seen and he would always come on walks with us. We ended up adopting 2 border collie pups, 1 for them 1 for me, so we'd have 3 animals with us on walks. The couple then looked after a 2nd cat for a neighbour while she was away and we then had 4 animals with us on walks. One day we went on a long walk through woods below the hill and as everyone started back I realised that if I went straight uphill through the trees, not on the pathway, I'd get back a lot quicker, so I went off on my own and found all 4 animals also realised it was the quickest way home and so followed me! With no pathway there was a lot of underbrush to battle through, plus it was tough for 2 cats and 2 pups going uphill, but it felt great to be the leader of such an unusual pack of 4!
