Tickety-Boo
And now for something completely different...

When I came up with the first verse, I was envisioning a song like "Let's Dance On" by the Monkees; however, it evolved into this wall of sound, which I would describe as a frenzied frolic through inanity.

I used the style EURDNC3 but substituted the drum track with DOD. I added various virtual instruments via the keyboard. For the mini choir in the beginning, I used my old trick of recording each harmony part three times.

The song clocks in at just under three minutes, so you won't have to suffer too much.

The Wrecking Crew
Vocals: Me

1935 Synth, Rhythm, EuroDance EnergyStab

Ujam Virtual Piano - Grit
NI Electric Mint
NI Electric Storm
NI Schema Dark
NI Schema Light
Ujam Usynth (various)
DOD Upbeat and Aggressive
NO AI

Her face ain’t pretty
But her body won’t stop
Roll me on the carpet
Before this party drops

“Before you put me into a zoo
It must be absolutely, positively tickety-boo”

Tickety-boo, tickety-boo
One and one doesn’t have to be two
You can do what you want to do
But everything must be tickety-boo

Sideshow freaks
Invade my living room
Circus geeks are
Coming home soon

“Before you put me into a zoo
It must be absolutely, positively tickety-boo”

Tickety-boo, tickety-boo
One and one doesn’t have to be two
You can do what you want to do
But everything must be tickety-boo

Scott,

No suffering here - this is great!

Love the arrangement and vocals. It has touches of the Talking Heads and The B-52s.

Excellent all around!

I have absolutely NO idea what your song is about, but it's incredibly funny and the chorus extremely catchy.
Catchy as in "can’t get that damn thing outta my head".

Really well done smile[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Hi, Scott.

As B.D. said, this is super-catchy.

Fun listen - especially the breakdown with the synth calliope.

It is indeed "something different". laugh

Hi Scott!
I like the Eurodance style used here, and it fits really well with the chord movement - I think I heard I - III - IV - iv progression in the chorus. While I’m familiar with the expression ‘tickety-boo’, I wasn’t quite sure what the context was, so I asked Copilot for its interpretation, which summarised is ‘If you’re going to judge me, please do it fairly’. Not sure if that was YOUR meaning, but it’s probably something I would hope for. In saying that, I love the imagery you have used and the oblique way of getting your message across.

Those BVs - very good - with some Queen stylings in some parts. As well as Bob’s suggestions, I’d throw Pet Shop Boys in there as well - particularly in the intro and verse 1. I love that very dark middle section!

Very creative!

Scott,

It’s a song with a somewhat unusual, indescribable feel to it.
But it’s a really fun track.
Your artistic sensibility is exceptional.
I don't think anyone but you could have created this song.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Wow Scott! And wow again!

So much going on to keep the listener interested. Very innovative, love it! Erm! I’m getting the wackiness and Avant Garde of Split Enz and harmony of ELO. You have really channeled a great song here. I love this sort of creativity, à la Godley & Creme.

Sen (tic-tic) sa (tic-tic) tion (tic-tic) al.

Brilliant, kind regards

Kinda reminded me of a cross between "GImme Dat Ding" by the Pipkins and "Hot Butter" by Popcorn in the early seventies. Albert Hammond wrote Gimme Dat Ding, so it has some pedigree. Tickety-boo didn't stay stuck in my head, thankfully, but I can see how that might happen. Nicely crafted for what it is, the separate elements all fit together in a good way. Well done, overall.

This was out of the ordinary—in a good way.
I don't know why, but it reminded me of some of Paul McCartney's old solo songs!

Thanks, Andrew. "Tickety-boo" is an old-fashioned British term that means things are as it should be or correct.

You're are pretty close on the chord progression for the chorus. I've put the song's chord chart below in case you are interested.

Verse: D Gmadd4 A7 D
Prechorus: B7 Em A7 Cm
Chorus: Eb G7 Cm Abm
Bridge: D Gm D

Yep. Totally reminds me of what a theme song for The Ministry Of Silly Walks would sound like. One and one doesn't have to be two. DANG! i love this, Scott. Dig that wall of sound you created. Excellent lyrics and what a fun melody. OUtstanding produyction, Scott. Much enjoyed!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

This song just bounces along, tickety-boo! Great dynamics in the arrangement. Totally enjoyable and could have been longer. Unique sound, too.

Hi Scott,

That was a fun song, thanks for sharing!

The choir, the jaunty beat, your vocals, the unexpected chord changes, the synth "wall of sound" - all make it a delightful listen.

Not sure what tickety-boo is, though ;-)

Scott,

Marvelous!

Aiming for Monkees (which I applaud) you've stuck squarely in the center of Frank Zappa (more applause).

LOVE it.

Superb production.
Cool vocals.

This is why I love this forum. Talented songwriters/producers creating Original music worth listening to.

Sounds like the theme for a horror movie or a stage musical where a monster runs after kids and yells "Tickety boo!!" smile Very imaginative step to another dimension, funny and quirky lyrics. Your vocals are absolutely scary and the backing vocals just nail the mood. Super cool band, great rhythm, I can see those geeks dancing. Superb effects. Very catch chorus, now I had to find out how to get "tickety boo" out of my head smile I award this song the title of most creative song of this summer.

Scott, even though I have no idea what this song is about I still think this is fabulous.
Your vocal really fits this fun song.
Great instrumentation
One question, how do I get rid of this ear worm of yours? I know that I will be singing Tickely-Boo at least for the rest of the night!
Loved it

Hi Scott
This is a total trip! Such a unique blend of
old-school Monkees energy and
massive Eurodance walls of sound.
The 'tickety-boo' hook is insanely catchy
and the vocal layering at the start works perfectly.
Fun, frantic, and brilliant production! 🔥💎

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
