I’m running the the 2026 version of BIAB Audiophile on a new Mac Studio with an M4 Max chip and I just got a pop up notice that this version of BIAB WILL NOT RUN ON A FUTURE MAC OS UPDATE.
So, will one of the PG Music staff please respond to these posts.
Will this very expensive program cease to run on Mac silicon in the very near future?
DaveTune, BIAB/Rosetta has been a subject of discussion on this forum at least since AAPL said ( 5+ years ago) they would one day abandon Rosetta. Years ago PG Made the argument that we did not need to "worry" about such things. It didn't matter. Like deficits. The software performed adequately. We knew Rosetta was there. As a software developer, I thought Rosetta was stupid. But I know Lots of stupid stuff lives on in spite of my willingness to point out how wrong it is. Burdens we carry.
As i said BIAB has mostly worked just fine. The negligible performance difference some of us may have believed was there was, after all, negligible.
I got that same message the other day. It bothers me a lot.
I'm wondering when we will hear something meaningful from PG.

Huh? Rosetta was for enabling PPC aps over Intel and was killed in 2012. Rosetta 2 was introduced in 2020 to enable Intel apps on Apple Silicon Macs. Apple announced in 2024 that Rosetta 2 would go away with macOS 2028 in two years.

Perhaps but it's highly unlikely. Rosetta 2 is still supported in macOS 27 GoldenGate. Since an AS Native version of BIAB will not run over Intel Macs, I don't see PG Music cutting off that share of the market until BIAB 2028. They did release a 32/64 bit version in 2018 (you had to select one or the other depending on your macOS) but dropped 32 bit in 2019.
I have a test Volume running macOS 27 Golden Gate Beta 3. I've not tested BIAB over it yet but will soon—not expecting it to behave any differently than it does over Tahoe but I'll find out soon enough. So far, I'm having trouble with 3rd party MIDI drivers (but not CoreAudio/CoreMDI) and Apple's Books.app is broken—again.

PG Music has confirmed in one of the many other threads on this subject that they will not abandon their Intel market until they have to. I see no reason to doubt them on this. This means we will see a Native version of BIAB in 2028 and not before. They might surprise us but I don't expect a repeat of 2018 when they gave us a version that could be run in 32 or 64 bit (you had to select). Apple Silicon Native apps don't run over Intel and I don't expect them to release two different versions simultaneously.
If this bothers you well... be bothered, I guess.

I ran BIAB Audiophile on my Golden Gate Test Volume. After installing Rosetta 2 per the popup, it ran pretty well from the external drive, exactly as I expected.
The pop-up has been updated in macOS 27. I'm testing a number of apps with Intel libraries. Each one is posting its own version of this:

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
