In the older days of BIAB, I used to copy and paste sections of Realtracks regularly. One trick to know in relation to generating material these days is that simultaneously generating multiple versions of the same Realtrack reduces the likelihood of parallel generations occurring. By "parallel generations," I mean that the exact same chord generation occurs in the same bar across two or more tracks of the same instrument. This was a problem in the early days of Realtracks. Around 15 or so years ago, PG Music fixed this so that if the same Realtrack was placed on multiple tracks (e.g. 2905 was present on Utility Tracks 1, 2 and 3), when the three tracks are generated at the same time, BIAB actively chooses chord patterns to avoid parallel generations.

This technique was first introduced in Realband where it's called Multiriff, and it's possible to generate seven distinct versions of the same Realtrack in one go. I have found this a very useful tool over the years when it comes to comping a master track together.

Thanks Noel (and J&B) - I did not know that or the BIAB solution to it. I am about to finalise a new song where the piano real track has a cool 1 bar phrase that only occurred in the third chorus. I wondered ‘Why isn’t there more of that?’ It came to my attention right in a bar where the piano created a fill between lyric passages, so I copied it to chorus 1 and 2 in the same position and applied volume automation to that bar to give it some oomph. I sense utility tracks are now going to get a hammering from me!
