Mike...

SO BLINKIN TRUE.
i dont wanna sound the same as others.
i say develope your own style.

the other thing i keep on coming across these days is with new project studios...nobody seems to put in the work to experiment to get FX 'sound picture' they want.
i dont profess to be a senior AE but ive talked to enough to know that experimentation is important. in days of yore it was outboard...now its plugins....but like before its important to experiment. ....eg...if i remember the sound of the take off of the ship
in the Telstar hit taking off was done by recording a toilet (in an apartment ??) and then reversing the tape ?
they had no choice but to experiment in those days....3/4 traks >>8 limitations...bouncing tween tape machines etc...
consoles built in house etc...mic'd up speakers in a bathroom or whatever.they experimented....and very groovy hits ensued often.

maybe i'll get eggs on my face...so be it...lol.
but i venture to suggest the reason its difficult to get those vintage 'sound pictures' that people yearn for today is because the gear used is very different from those days. there is only so much dsp programming can do i suspect.

kudos.
