Mike there are literally thousands of drum samples on the market today that you can do exactly the same thing with. There are also programs that do all the heavy lifting for you like jamstix and BFD. and such.

You can't edit RDs with midi controllers, since they are not midi, nor are they constructed by midi. They are audio tracks built to the structure of the bar part markers.

If you want to build Drum tracks from scratch with one shots and hits that is so available now. Big Fish audio, and a gazillion others have everything you want. You can paint them in, or use a sampler program to "play" them in with a midi controller or the piano roll and a mouse.

Maybe what you are asking is to add more hits in of the same kit like tossing in a snare or cymbol hit at specific times? That might be nice to have as one shots. Am i understanding you now?
