I know there are fans of electronic music among the PG Music community. I'd be interested in their comments - indeed everyone's - on this piece which I have just completed. Thanks for your time, Marc

A great piece Marc! I liked the way it evolved. Cleverly conceived and put together, well done. At about the 2.00 mark my head was anticipating the build up to 'solidify' with the introduction of a nice TR-808 simple but solid drum pattern which would drop out at say 4.00 leaving the synth washes, etc. to finish. Nice work though, Marc.

Hi marc, I'm not at all experienced with electronic music so I'm not in a position to make learned comments, but I like what you've done. As Skyline has already said, you developed the arrangement really skillfully. You kept me entertained througout I'm now on my second listen! All the best, Noel

Wow. Marc, I don't know much about this kind of music but this could be a great sound track. It sounds so alive. Interesting without overwhelming. Well done.

Marc,
Electronic music is an interesting concept.. the sounds are so infinitely variable that you can ALMOST introduce all the required sonic interest by swapping patches and introducing different instruments. Unfortunately, unless the song itself has a shape, it can come across as writing a book with the same character in every role, but wearing different clothes. It seems to me that you've dressed each part of the song in different patches, but the underlying entity remains the same for the whole song.
For example, I can't identify a B part where the song branches to a coda, bridge, or any other part that is structurally different than the rest. It gives the impression (to my ears) that the song has an AAAAA structure.
Having said that, I don't see that as being a deal killer. Electronic music is often used more for mood than anything else, and it is not uncommon for it to take the form of an extended loop. But, the addition of a B and/or C part would dramatically enhance the work as composition in my estimation (whatever questionable value my opinion might hold).
I speak as an impartial 3rd party, listening through the filters of my own preference. I can only speak for what I like, not for what has intrinsic quality. I expect that you, as creative controller of the project, know exactly what you set out to accomplish and did what you wanted. The main advantage of hearing other people's thoughts isn't so much to learn how to do better as it is to gain an awareness of how other people judge music. Whether you agree with or act on my statement or not is totally your call. I'm not trying to persuade you of anything, I'm just expressing an observation.
Anyway, you are a talented guy. I really like the way you developed the sound. You clearly have musical sensibilities and know how to to use them to make your music sound interesting.

I have listened to Electronic music and I will say that this is the way it is suppose to sound. That is layered sounds with few chords. You have created one great soundscape.
Two thumbs up!

Warmest thanks to all for these encouraging and enlightening comments.
@John, I tend to agree with you – if I were going to tinker around any more with this it would be to add a drum pattern
@Noel The question is, after 2 listens are you humming it in the shower?
@Josie Thanks – I’m not a “tencho-head” myself, but you would be surprised how easy it is, using simply the tools we already have in our studios, to produce music like this
@ Pat I was very interested to read your comments Pat. My original plan was to feature just one note in this piece (varying the octaves of course!) but I was not brave or mad enough to carry that out (which is not to say that I may not have a go in the future). I guess the question is to what extent varying the patches, soundscape, velocities and tempos can cover for a lack of melody. My guess is that this can only go so far. Kraftwerk (naturally enough my preferred Electronic group) are characterised as much by their wonderful tunes as by the mind-blowing sounds they use.
@Mario Thanks a lot Mario – just the 2 chords in fact. You know how I like to keep things simple!
A word of warning though to those who enjoy playing and find ‘tinkering around’ with computers a necessary evil. In this piece I played almost nothing – just the melody lines, and the sustained minor chords and then only once. Even the rhythmic patterns are mostly straight out of my synth’s ‘arpeggio’ sequences.
I’m really glad so many of you enjoyed it – I would recommend (even if you have no parricular affinity with electronica) to try this sort of thing yourself. If nothing else, you will learn many features, shortcuts and windows of your software that you don’t generally use.
Finally, those of you who have a FaceBook account can show your appreciation by adding the artist site: 'marc glinert (artist page)' to their list of 'likes'!!!

Ah! I figured there was a method and a plan behind your decisions to do what you did!
I really like this genre, for all the same reasons you mention. I like the richly layered patterns and the use of technology to create soundscapes I would never have consciously created on my own. Unfortunately, ALL of my own attempts to create such a work have left me with an AAAAA structure (hence my observation)
AS you said about Kraftwerk (and many others) the beauty of their compositions is their predictable ability to crank out full-blown structured songs that also happen to richly layered.
Here is where BIAB's automated intelligence melody might help people like us. I have yet to try a techno piece and let BIAB come up with the structure. But, now that you have sown the seeds of renewed interest, I may try it.

Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe
This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
