Yeah, guys.
I had hoped the double-negative "stinkin' badges" kind of language would convey that I was half-joking.
I'm just a dumb hack who plays (and writes) folk songs.
I wasn't trying to declare any hard-fast rules about blues vs. jazz or anything.

Well, all of this discussion is about a chord whose specification is still unclear. Where is kaeote? Please spell it out for us.
Just to get my two cents in on dominant chord naming, the 9th includes the 7th, the 11th includes the 7th and 9th, and the 13th includes the 7th, 9th, and 11th. Various was to describe excluding notes exist like Bb13X11 is Bb13 with no 11. Or Bb7/13 or Bb7 add 13 is, well, you get it.

Being a long time jazz pianist, a Bb13 chord does not imply use of the 11th. with an Eb the chord would be called Fm9/Bb or Bb13sus and the 3rd left out. The sus generally denotes the 4th. With an E the chord would be called Bb13(+11). Later, Ray

Hi raymb1. Like you, with a 13th, I almost never play the 11 (yuk), often omit the 5th, and maybe the ninth. But that is my choice, "with taste" as Mac said. However, in my view, the 13 chord technically includes the 7, 9, and 11.

If you're hired for a gig and you played an 11th in a Bb13 chord, you probably wouldn't get called again. The (+11) is most used with a 13th chord. In order to use the natural 11th, the chord would have to be Bb13sus, Bb9sus, Bb7sus. In practical use Bb13 does not include the 11th. There are worlds of difference in what's theoretically correct and what sounds good. Later, Ray
