Which Dxi? At one point if I had the VSC selected as choice one for midi, and the box checked and the VSC Dxi selected there, I had a number of odd problems.
I guess you've had the thing play and it works fine and sounds ok on playback?
I'd try a complete shutdown of the system after closing Band in a box with the favorite settings, booting and turning off the internet and virus program and then doing the render process.
You could also be having a memory or hard drive problem, but I would guess that would show up somewhere else.
