Personally I would pick a sound source prior to adding CC’s to it as different sources MAY act differently. If both are true GM than all should be the same, as Notes has indicated. It’s when you get into the specific not GM sound sources like Garritan J&BB, B4II and etc or when you change certain parameters such as pitch bend range that CC responses can get changed.
It’s been a long time since I’ve used SFZ but if I remember correctly it should respond to the standard CC’s ok. If you haven’t Dled the pro version SFZ+ from Cakewalk then do it. It is now free and it’s a better SF2 handling player.
One last thing, my bet is that you would be better sounding instruments through the SD2 than you will get from SF2s. SF2s have very few layers, many only have one layer thus making them non velocity sensitive while the SD2 is velocity sensitive. That is you will get different timbres of the same instrument when you hit your keys, assuming that you have a velocity sensitive keyboard. That yields a more realistic sounding instrument.
If you have problems with your controller feel free to ask for help. I noticed that the manual is on line so we could DL it if need be.

I don't think I can with sfz. Since its output goes through the DXi/VST system the midi instructions don't go to the controller. If they did I'd see the Ketron flashing and have dual sounds.

I agree for most voices. It's mainly the guitars I don't like. They sound no better than the VSC DXi to me. I bought the collection of Jenssen guitars online and they sound much more realistic to me. The Jenssen demos sound even better since there's a little dynamics added so that's what I'm trying to emulate.

FWIW, since you like most of the SD2 sounds plus you like your SF2 guitar sounds if I were you I would create your basic song in BiaB then bring that song into a sequencer like RB; that’s what I do. That way you have more than one midi out port so you can run both the SD2 and the SFZ at the same time. I find using a sequencer (I use Sonar but I have played with RB) far easier to do what you want to do than using BiaB.
I believe this would save you a lot of hassle!

That's what I'm doing in general Mario. If there's more than 1 midi track I'm using the Ketron, in BiaB, to create the song. Then I'm importing into RB to add the sf2 based guitars. This works well and some of the resulting tracks have been great.
If I'm using a RealTracks style with only 1 midi track I can use an sf2 based instrument in BiaB which is cool too. The only drawback being the hassle of changing midi drivers all the time.
