To get rid of the bloatware, you should first make sure you have created your recovery DVD's (unless you purchased them separately). There is a command in HP to do that (that way, you can always get back to a factory install).

Then download and run PC Decrapifier (that's what it's called). I've used it a number of times on new PC installs and it works pretty well. It gives you the choice of what to remove, so you have a lot of flexibility.
