John, you are right that a closed canal helps mostly with low frequency loss, but it can also allow higher output of the hearing aid in mid and high frequencies before feedback occurs. Are your dome tips vented or unvented? Unvented would mean that the tip seals off your ear canal. Vented, or open fit, would mean that there is just a silicone structure there to suspend the sound tube in the ear canal.
